Need your help, used gun dealers

Recommended Posts

My dad's house was broken into about 2 months ago and while ransacking the place they found the key to his gun safe. Needless to say his safe is now empty. Ironically, they left the guns that werent locked up for various reasons. Unfortunately he found out he didnt have adequate insurance to cover all his losses as far as firearms go.

Long story short he is now in the process of trying to buy back what he lost. In order for him to be able to do that he is going to have to buy used. Where are the best gun dealers with the best inventory? He is in central MN, but will go where he needs to go. Thanks for the help!!!!!

The worst thing for me is that I bought him a Weatherby .300WSM with a Burris 3*9*50 Lighted Reticle scope as a thank you for getting me involved in hunting and fishing and that is now gone forever mad I hate stupid people!!!!!!!!!

Did he have them recorded in some form? dealers get a lot of calls asking "do you buy guns? and the old "it was my ____'s gun. I don't use it and just want to get rid of it" lines, and not knowing these people, the guns get bought for resale. The police report does not get sent on to dealers, so a lot of these guns will change hands quite easily. if he has that get a copy to the local dealers and gunsmiths, thats the front line to tracking anything down.

FOR ANYONE READING THIS POST, GO AND WRITE DOWN AN INVENTORY OF YOUR GUNS RIGHT NOW AND STORE THAT AWAY FROM WHERE THE GUNS ARE KEPT. List make, model, caliber, serial number, accessories, general condition, and if you can take a picture do so. If you have an extensive collection, or some you aren't sure about, an apprasial is a good idea. Most people don't carry enough insurance, check with your agent and see what the options are, my basic homeowners was good for $1000 on firearms, upping it was only a couple dollars a year. If you don't have a safe, look into even a cheap one. Please find a way to secure your firearms, it's not just a good idea, its the law.

I hope for nothing but ill will for the theif that took your fathers guns.

I've been doing alot of shopping around for guns lately. I'll be sure to post if I find a gun that fits the discription you mention. Sorry for the misfortune.

He has a partial list that he had written down and did supply it to a few of the local gun shops/pawn shops, but he was very disheartened by the whole ordeal that he didnt put much effort into it.

He lives in Meire Grove.

One other gun I know that he had stolen was a Spartan over/under 12 gauge.

Why dont police supply lists to area dealers? Wouldnt it be pretty easy to fax that portion of the police report to the local shops??? Most gun dealers I have talked with since this happened have said that they would love to get the reports because if they buy the gun from someone and it is then proven to be stolen they themselves are out the money that they paid for it.

That stinks.

I have all of my guns serial numbers stored in a safe. I also have a rider on my insurance for the current value of my guns. A few years ago I made a video with me talking stating the type of gun with serial number included at the suggestion of my insurance agent.

I also have many guns with my Operation ID number engraved on the gun in a spot no one can see. Years ago this was a program but I do not know if its still in place.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
