auxillary lights legal?

Recommended Posts

It is legal when the conditions are poor, There is some law saying you can only have a certain number of lights that can be used at one time, so you have to cover the other lights while driving. But under certain conditions you can use the extra lights while driving, like snow, fog, etc.

Well...yes, fog lights but I'm not sure that applies carte blanche to every sort of light because of difference in beam patterns, mounting heights, aiming, etc. Also, I think there is (or at least was) some stipulation about bulbs beyond a certain wattage being illegal for on-road use.

Think of it this way, turn on all of those lights, stand in front of your truck, now can you look at your truck without squinting, or turning your eyes away from the truck? Do you want oncoming cars to be blinded while they are driving 55 at you, and you are driving 55 at them?

I believe their is a height restriction of lights for on road use. So aux lights on your roof are a no here in mn. Myself i drive the rural roads alot to and from work and it gets dark in the winter. I would use them (when i get around to putting them on) as i usually have the entire road to myself. Of course turn them off when oncoming traffic approaches.

seen the local cop at the gas station and asked him about it showed him my vehicle, basically said dont use that set up on paved roads.. gravel roads be smart with them.. and you cant have more than a total of 4 beams facing forward with the max height being 42" above payment. also you can only have 2 HID bulbs on at a time..

Haha, I actually had 2 off road lights mounted to the back of my Bronco for whatever reason but I accidently lit them up on 35E through St.paul in some pretty heavy night traffic. Lets just say that was one peed trooper and luckly only a warning. He said "didn't you notice that there was no cars behind you for a good quarter mile" and they received a call of a car going the wrong way on the freeway.

if you really want to get in trouble with the law, i worked with a guy who would make signs put them on the back of your truck while other distracted you. He got a buddy of mine with one that said" get the h e l l out of the way, i have to sh--. the one that he did to me was a taped bra with a sign that read does this look good with my eyes? after i picked my son up at school and backed into the garage, it was when i noticed it. so a couple lights on the truck might make them mad but you can get in big trouble for other nonsense.
