Gulp leeches or Gulp Alive Leeches

Does anyone have a preference for jigging or rigging with either the Gulp leeeches from the small pack, or the Gulp Alive leeches from the liquid tub? I'm not real impressed witht the Alive leeches, they seem like trolling a piece of leather and take on a grayish color. The leeches in the pack look nice and black. Just curious if one jigs/rigs better than the other.

Thanks

The Alive ones don't seem to hold up as well as the others. For the quantity of 5" leaches you get in a small Alive tub, I'd rather use the standard Gulp.

I love using the 1-4" alive minnows for all sorts of things.

I prefer the real deal! Live bait trumps artificial any day....

+1

Maybe haven't given gulp an active chance...(only 50-60 8 hour days last year) only seemed to work on active fish while other people in the boat ..."with slightly less skill set cool" pounded them on live bait, once I switched caught more I wish it were different because gulp is easier to keep.

I've used both and found that walleyes will hit either, with the Gulp Alive having a slight edge. My problem is the hook up is extremely poor. I just have trouble getting the hook into the fish. Bottom line for me is there is no substitute for real leeches. I have never been in a situation where Gulp leeches have outfished the real thing. wink

We go to the Lac Seul every year in June chasing walleyes. On typical trip we will boat upwards of 150 walleyes per person per day. I'm not kidding. Anyway, our experience has shown that jigs and minnows are the preferred lure. They outfish leeches and crawlers in every test we have made so far. Naturally, we go through a lot of bait in our week-long trip. This year I will be ordering about 13 dozen minnows per person for five days of fishing and at nearly $5.00/doz. the bill gets rather steep.

Last year we decided to try giving Gulp! alive a try and we bought some that matched our minnows as close as we could. There were 7 of us and we thought gave the Gulp! a fair chance. The result? Live bait outfished Gulp! at least 15 to 1. I won't waste my money.

Edit: Two years ago I also brought some preserved fatheads along to see how well they would perform. They did about as well as the Gulp!

It just depends on how you like to fish the GULP!. If you like to actively pursue fish the GULP! will do just fine. If you slow down your presentation ...not so good.

Well said and I couldn't agree more! I used to use a ton of live bait, now I use very little live bait.
