So I am not the only one who talks to the chickadees?

I've also been known to talk to Juncos, Cardinals, Mourning Doves and Finches. The mourning doves seem to be the easiest to talk to. A couple of coos and they come flying in to check out what is going on in my yard.

Mimicking the birds is a hoot. I've been a whistler all my life. Used to use a 22 shell and blow on it to make gophers stand up when I was a kid. Then I discovered I could actually whistle higher. I like to call the chickadees, cardinals, orioles and a few others.

Even blue jays with thier tweedle deedle, lol. Pretty rare that a cardinal will come looking but the orioles and chikadees dang near go crazy trying to figure out why I'm such a big bird.

Great story. I have had cardinals come to a call when I fed meal worms, but since I can't whistle, I suspect it was more like "chow time!"

I didn't know cardinals ate meal worms. I'll have to put dsome out now for my resident pair.
