birdswacker
These moles are wrecking my lawn tunnel all over the last 2 days. My lawn is pretty dry right now. I've heard they like wet lawns because it attracts grubs? How do I get rid of them?
hotrod1
I use Talpirid or Tomcat. They are basically plastic worms that you set in the mole tunnel. If used as directed the moles will be gone in 24 to 48 hours. You can get the Tomcat at the big box stores.
Quetico
Smoke bombs from any decent hardware store. They will pop right out. Some will then shoot them with a the .22 or air rifle. I suppose if your really irritated the .45 pistol, 12 gauge or 30-06 will also do the job.
icehousebob
Rent the movie, "Caddy Shack." Then use the same method that Bill Murray does. Just kidding. On level lawns, its easy to flood them out using a garden hose. There are poisons as were mentioned earlier, as long as you are careful around kids and pets. Another method is to run a hose off a lawn mower exhaust and put the end in the tunnel. I have a couple of Bassetts and one has such a good nose, I have watched her trot across the lawn, stop and dig like crazy. Then she grabs the mole and throws it into the air. I never thought it would be possible to smell something underground, but she does it.
LwnmwnMan2
We recommend Tomcat or Talprid, same thing, just different brand names.Once you have gotten rid of the moles, then get rid of the food source by applying either Dylox or Merit (or other grub prevention type fertilizer). birdswacker
LwnmwnMan2, I read grubs like damp lawns mines as dry as a popcorn fart right now. I just put down letch fertilizer for crabgrass. Can I still use the Dylox or Merit?
hotrod1
You want to wait until late June-August to control grubs. That is when they are small and feeding near the soil surface.Spring control is hard because they are large and may not be feeding.
hugonian1
Google The Mole Trap.A friend turned me on to these a few years ago when I mentioned the damage they were doing to my lawn.It is amazing how much damage 1 mole can do. These traps really work. I have caught over 25 moles the past couple of years. If there is a fresh run it is almost guaranteed to get trapped. They are a little pricey but I just consider it another form of hunting.I get great joy when I see one of the traps snapped up.
DARK30
I just set my first trap this evening. I use the spring loaded one that stabs them as they re-open their tunnel....works great. Small leg-hold trap for the pocket gophers.
