Trolling motor

Question

I am looking at purchasing a new electric trolling motor. I was wondering if you can run a 12 volt motor of two batteries in paralel or if i am better of getting a 24 volt motor? Just looking for a long run time.

What size boat are you trying to use it on? That will really determine which motor to get and whether it should be 24v or 12v.

You could do what you are asking but I would actually think just hooking up one battery and keeping the other on standby would be a better option.

You can run a 12V trolling motor off two batteries in parallel, which will increase your run time as long as the batteries are of about the same age and condition.

As SpecialK said, what will make a difference is how big of a rig you're going to put it on if you need 12 vs 24 V.

I agree with the rest, it depends on boat size. If in doubt go bigger, thats what I did. Have a smaller 24v on my boat but with the trust it puts out I don't have to run the motor as hard and thust got long run time out of my batteries. If your buying two batteries anyway I think that's the way to go.

I agree with the above replies!

Go to more thrust then you think that you need! You will never be sorry as more thrust translates into longer battery life if you do not need to run the motor wide open.

I have had both 12 volt(dual batteries)and 24 volt 65# and 80# thrust motors and have gotten my best battery life and power out of the 24 volt motors.
