I was drawn for MN Zone 349 D. We hunt public land near La Crescent. Usually me, my youngest brother, and my dad. Though I'm not sure if my dad will be going or not, his fishing club has a trip scheduled at the same time.

Still not 100% sure if I am going to hunt in SD this year. If I do, I will be in the Black Hills somewhere.

I was drawn for 464 B. Ive been seeing alot of birds around my hunting land. Up till about a week ago i was seeing 8 toms grouped together with a few hens but recently they broke apart into smaller groups. 1-2 toms with a bunch of hens. I havent seen any of them break into a strut yet.

I went out tonight to scout for my nieghbors daughter that I'm bringing out on opening week, so I got to the spot that I arrowed my bird last year and the land owner had disked the edge of the field but you couldn't hardley tell because of all the turkey tracks and the marks from the toms dragging thier wings in full strut I asked the land owner when he had disked a he said he did it on sunday morning so they are really hitting that area hard right now I set my trail came over it and should have some pictures that I will post here in a few days. Also after I set the trail cam I walked about 200 yards away and saw 6 birds 2 were big long beards and 3 were hens for sure.

I know I'm getting the itch real bad. I'm hunting a different property than I've hunted in the past. unfortunately someone else had already received permission to hunt the farm I usually hunt. I've only been able to do a little scouting. I went out last weekend at sun up and did hear some birds gobbling in the area. I just need one to be there for my season. Good luck to all my teamates!!

Well now I cant wait till my season starts went out with my buddy and helped get him his bird last nigh taking my nephew out this weekend and another kid out next weekend nothing like watchin a gobbler come running in to the decoys with just a few soft purrs to get him to look our way.

Well I took my nephew out this morning and at 9:00 we had 3 jakes come in to 30 yards and I think he got too excited and pulled the shot took a couple feathers off him and he flew away.

Well no luck for me today. I was out in my blind from about 530 till 1230. Right away this morning i talked back and fourth with a gobbler for about 45 min, but could get him to come my way. Then i had 3 different hens in front of me through out the morning. Hopefully better luck tommorow.

At least your hearing toms in the area. I know I went and scouted my hunting area (listened for gobbles early in the AM) didn't hear a thing. I was really getting pumped to go. I'm actually a little disappointed in not hearing any birds.

We are now 3 for 3 on shots but had one get away sat morning. My buddy took his son out this morning and got his bird 19.5# 9" beard and 7/8" and 5/8" spurs.

Well gentleman I had success this morning. I decided to go after the bird that haunted me in my sleep. Last year I called in the same bird but he wouldn't come in any closer than 70 yards. He stopped right at the 70 yard mark and wouldn't for the life of me seal the deal. Monday I located him and once again he hung up on me, this time at about 100 yards. I was sitting in the woods and he would not cross a small drainage ditch and stayed at the edge of the wood line. So today I set up on the edge of the field right where he hung up on me 2 days ago. As soon as I let out my first cadence of calls he hammered right back at me from the roost. A few minutes went by doing the same thing and he gobbled at every call I threw out. I then let out the fly down cackle and beat my hat against my leg (simulate wing beats). He gobbled about 7 times in a row right after I did that from about 200 yards out. I kept sweet talking him and he closed that 200 yard in about 5 minutes. He was now in the field with me just over a slight knoll and gobbling his head off. As soon as he hit the field I went silent. At first I seen him crest the knoll in full strut. He then looked in my direction and seen my pretty boy, he dropped his head to the ground and went full sprint directly towards my 1 decoy. At 30 yards he stopped and stretched his neck straight out and I let him have it. 1 shot and that all she wrote. I had my gobbler by 6:15 am, I was in the woods for only 40 min, from truck to tag.

24lbs...11 inch beard...3/4 spurs.

Im still workin at my bird. One more day left. 40+ hours in the blind and havent seen a beard yet.

Go mustang it's going to be a wet weekend but I have seen alot of birds get taken right after the rain stops they like to keep thier feathers dry and strut alot. Anymore reports from eric29 hopefully he knocks a bird down tomorrow then we are ahead unless one of the other teams that has a bird down drops the hammer on one but from what I hear they can't hit a thing.
