mtwalleye
I am about to purchase a new Weber gas grill and need some advice. I am trying to decide if the Genesis model is worth the extra $200 over the Spirit model. I can buy the Spirit with stainless steel grates and flavor bars for $550 and the Genisis runs about $750. Can anyone provide any experiences with these models?
fishorgolf
I just looked at the weber site and understand your question. What is the difference? The only thing I can think of is the spirt is made maybe not made quite as heavy duty as the genisis to get the price point down. it is also 36m btu vs 42m but that is not enough to make a $200.00 difference. I would go look at both of them and see if you can tell the difference. Like I said my guess is construction quality. Maybe even USA made vs imported but this is only a guess. Swimbait2009
There's also more cooking area with the Genesis...about 100 sq-inches.

old goose hunter
My wife and I received a genesis for a wedding present 6 years ago.I was having some trouble with the cross over pipe on the burner andthe ignitor was not working. I e-mailed Weber they e-mailed me back asking for the serial number, three days later fed ex showed up at ourdoor with a new burner and ignitor prepaid no charge. The genesis grills have a ten year burner warranty and 15 year warranty on thecast parts of the grill. For my money go with the best. Rip_Some_Lip
Are they the kind that has no flameups like Holland grills? I am thinking of upgrading to a Holland because I am so sick of the flameups burning my food.
1luckydad
The only thing that sucks about having a Weber is that you miss the excitement of buying a new grill every couple of years. It seems I will have to sell my present Weber if I want to go shopping for a new one. The darn thing just won't go to pot like the others. I still fondle the new ones when I am at the store though. nate larson
You are correct...the hollands wouldn't do a good job searing a steak. My in-laws have one and I don't really enjoy cooking on it. It does a good job of preventing flare ups but it isn't very versitile imo.
chaffmj
My opinion is to go with coal gas sucks. You can buy a weber chacoal grill for under $100 and spend the rest of your cash on liquior and food for the party your throwing when you invite the friends over to BBQ. Grainbelt
When cooking for my family I like to use both. Coal grill for the meat and then load the gas grill up with veggies. It's worth the investment into stainless. My dad bought a stainless grill in the seventies and had it for 30 years. I own a stainless and have had it for 5 years now. In the past I would have bought a couple of grills in that amout of time.
