Fire Lucia

I thought this was a good article on Don Lucia and the Gophers for the 2011 season

http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/120680684.html

The more I read on Lucia the more I like him. I like his stlye and hopefully he can get some more respect by winning. It might be in his best interest to start somewhere else from scratch. He knows how to coach. Back to back championship says he does.

The best opportunity to start from scratch just got filled. Personally I thought it was a perfect opportunity for all parties involved. Mr Lucia, Penn State, UofM, the FMGAC, and a couple of coaches waiting in the wings would have all been winners. Why don't the powers that be read this HSOforum?!?

Mich Tech, Clarkson, or Princeton don't seem like opportunities he'd pursue given his rather extensive resume. He's in until the very bitter end.

I'm guessing Brooks likes Lucia's style based on the Gophers performance the past 5 years. As long as he's coaching the Gophers into 8th plave in the WCHA (or soon to be BT sick), I bet he's absolutely loving it!

Ha ha ya he does kind of remind me of my friends (also Sioux fans) who tell me that we can't get rid of Lucia. On the other side of that coin I think the Sioux need to extend Hakstol's contract to 10 or 20 years, he has a knack for winning those big games.

You know I have defended Lucia for a long time now, even during a lot of the bad times but last year was kind of a breaking point for me, mostly because I just don't see us turning corner any time soon and I think we have been patient enough. Could he turn the gophs around? Yes! Will he do it, who knows...

All I'm saying is Don Lucia can coach hockey. His track record been hash out on here before. i think Solbes has a good point the Penn St job would have been perfect for him.

I'm a closet Gopher fan what would give you that idea. We need some open water...soon. Whens walleye opener?

Water's opening up in the Park Rapids area. Heading north on Friday, can't wait! I'll be missing my first walleye opener in 6-7 years as my daughter has a committment that weekend. Frying pan will have to sit idle for another week.

Go Sabres! Go Hawks! Wrong thread, oh well.

Brooks, isn't it always walleye opener in ND?

walleye fishing in North Dakota doesn't even come close to the fishing in Minnesota. I Don't care what anyone says. Part of the reason IMO is the no closed season.

I think the sig needs to stay another month. I don't think you fullfilled your half of the bet. Looks like you trimed that down a little bit.

Could be the 9,000 less lakes and the no managment going on in nd fishing.

Ill be heading to the cabin in detroit lakes Friday. Chase some slabs and get the boat ready. Hopefully there is some open water.

How about this. My signature is up for sale. Anyone who agrees to install a heavy 5 piece wood dock into 38 degree water this weekend can have my signature for the remaining 5 months until NCAA hockey returns. I'm open to Gophers, Sioux, Badgers, whatever. I just don't want to get in that water again.

Don't go for that additional month [PoorWordUsage] either. Remember you won the original bet...

Alright tell the years you want on my signature. I thought everybody forgot about the bet. Its time to move on...can't blame me for trying grin.

I like your thinking Solbes. If you have hip waders it shouldn't be bad. Easy for me to say grin

Waders solbes, waders are what you need. Think of it as a one time investment that will pay you back every spring. If you stay away from the high end neoprene you can get them pretty cheap.

yeah..,I think your sugar coating it. At first I was OK with the bet but after awhile that signature really got to me. All that signature did was confuse other people, I mean they will see my logo and then read the Minnesota pride signature underneath. doesn't make sense. I took it off so other readers wouldn't think that there is Gopher fans that are also Sioux fans. What would people think.

People around here are pretty smart, at least I like to think so. They know all about 'dat bet. Not very confusing at all. Okay, maybe the Blackhawks logo is a little confusing. Didn't they lose last night?

I have neoprene waders, I'm really just kinda lazy. Drinking beer on the shore is more my kind of thing. I curse my neighbors who have shorelines where roll-in docks can be installed in 8 minutes.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
