Little trick that many forget to look at ,, on the bottom of the case there will be 2 bolts on twins and 3 on triples .. pull them out , becareful not drop them. raise the rear of the sled as high as you get it .. lots of old fuel may run out..this can cause hard starting.

Well we took another look at my sled. Thanks ST and Ripstick. I have spark, its getting gas and starts great when cold. Once it runs for a while it gets boggy and dies then wont start. I have a odd noise around the clutch I believe. Im thinking coil but can a bad clutch cause these problems?

Anyone who knows a good reasonable polaris mechanic around Duluth please e-mail me. Anyone on here a Polaris mechanic please e-mail me as well. I would like to have it fixed by the bash.

i dont think it is the coil or clutch it almost sounds like a stator problem to me.thats usually how they act runs ok when cold but then cuts out and dies once the stator gets warm.i would try and get the specs and test it with an ohm meter, maybe call a polaris dealer they may be able to help you out as far as what readings you should have on which wires.the plug is right behind the recoil on your sled, not sure on polaris but on a cat there is 2 of them one for lighting and the one going to the cdi box thats the one you test.

that smells of a stator issue depending on the year unload it stators are nothing but headaches. Sometimes if the crank is bent it will always act up and cause the sled to die once it warms up, it's an expanding and reduction thing from what I have been told lets just hope it's just a warn out stator.

good luck,

mr

what numbers did you get?i dont really think that is your problem that sled will run with 2 cylinders anyway, not as good as all 3 but it would still run and not cause the problem you described.i still think you have a stator issue.a new set of rings will set you back about $20 a hole and a piston kit should be less than $50 per hole if there is no damage to the cylinder.

Im not sure because another guy who knows what he is doing did the readings while I held the throttle and turned it over. I was hoping to have it for a day run to Bayfield this next week but no biggy. I thought thats what I saw but could be wrong. Ill call him and see what he has found so far. Im hoping its a quick, easy, cheap fix. This Mn/Wi resiprosity thing is killing my wife and I. We both live in Cheeseland and work in the gopher state. crazy

oh man those are real low with the highs in the 80's i am surprised it ran at all.they should be around 120-130 psi and all be within 3% of each other.also try to get a different guage you might have a bad one.if it is that low hopefully you can get by with a hone job and rering.

if its a high milage engine that you have been having problems with i would say move to a different motor.... if it was me i would part the sled out and get a twin cylinder little bit newer sled but thats just me...

Northlander, Sorry to hear of your misfortune!

Do yourself a favor and send that machine too a new home.

It may be in great shape but it doesnt do you any good polished up taking space in the garage. Lots of good used low mile twins on the market.

Also now is the time to be looking for a good deal.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
