A heck fo a deal - dishwasher question

Tom7227

Question

My daughter got a heck of a deal from a friend - a free dishwasher. Whirlpool model DU8000 with unknown number of miles on it. When you turn it on copious amounts of water start coming down around the motor onto the floor - say 1/4 cup in 2 minutes or so. There also was a drip coming from somewhere on the left side as you looked at the rig when installed. The drip was coming from the side itself not from the house connection in that area. I was going to take it out of the counter to see what that leak was and then the bottom started and figured that was a bigger issue. The thing was installed 3 years ago and not used because someone told her that the door gasket was bad and she only replaced that recently. So the thing has sat in the kitchen unused for quite a while.

Any ideas? I haven't even begun to do any research so I don't know if it could be something as simple as a gasket between the power head and the tub. My guess is that it is fatal which explains why it was a heck of a deal.

Thanks for your time.

Tom

when i take off the kick plate, ie panel under the door to the dish washer, there is a hose that is notiorous for getting chewed up by mice or other. that may be leaking as this has happened to mine, solved that problem fast with dcon and 8 snap traps, 4kia. but id check the hose first, take the kick plate off and run the rinse cycle and see where it is comming from

I looked around online and found a place that had parts and some exploded diagrams. The pump fits in a big hole in the bottom of the tub, so it could be leaking around that or it could be be a crack in the pump housing.

You can get the right picture if you know all of the model number, like du8000xb or whatever. post an email address if you need me to send you the web site. posting commercial web addresses is not allowed.

Just noticed you are in white bear. dey appliance is in vadnais heights and I bet they could provide advice.

It looks like the expensive part is the pump motor. If that is ok, then most anything else is reasonable.

If it leaks from the side that implies the pump motor is ok, that's a plus. could it be leaking where the things that support the racks are fastened through the tub?

I thing you will have to pull it out to see where the bottom is leaking.

don't forget to turn off the power. :-)

probably the fill valve, that where its located, I have seen those crack time and time again usually due to freezing during storage or transportation. Thats where you connect your water supply to. easy to get and easy to replace, best if you can lay the washer on its back, hope this helps. While you have it out you can inspect the fill hose assy/ installation located on the left side its very UNcomplicated. I think that fill valve will be in the neighborhood of $50.
