I have a garmin, my daughter has a magellan, my friend has a somewhat cheaper garmin. They all work great. The biggest difference between the various models is the features.

Do you like a bigger screen? Want audible instructions with street names-- "turn left in 500 feet on cromwell ave" instead of "turn left in 500 feet". Want lifetime access to traffic data? Want to be able to store music in unit? Bluetooth? broadcast to the FM radio in the car? etc etc.

Personally I would be a little leery of the obscure brands.

I have found mine to be very helpful driving in places I am not familiar with.
