Lily the Black Bear - den cam

A relative from Washington emailed me this morning about a live "black bear den cam" set up in Ely - I got onto the site just in time to see a cub born! Pretty dang amazing! I think they'll leave the camera there, so it should be fun to watch her interact with the cub - not sure if there is one or two at this point. Google "lily the bear" or go to WildEarth dot tv -- they have some other live cameras that look neat as well.

I have been watching Lily for the past 2+ weeks. Very cool video to follow. Now its just a matter of knowing how many cubs Lily had.

I did see the paw on one right after the birth but nothing since.

I was just watching and the little cub was crying or at least making a racket like it was hungry.

I was up at 2 this am and checked in on Lily. The cub was screaming so hard I was wondering how the mother would get any rest.

Looks to be she only had one cub.

Man, I never knew they were only approx 9 inches long and about 3/4 of a pound when they are born. I saw the cubs paw yesterday and man, as little as a pencil.

Everytime I look, I only see her flank or hind end. I did hear the cub, though.

Often I only see her sleeping now too - it sounds she had a pretty rough 24 hrs before delivery though, so she's probably exhausted. It'll be interesting to see if she moves more over the next couple of weeks as the cub grows. Amazing what technology can bring us isn't it???

Yes as I watched her during her labor, it looked very hard on Lily.

I was just watching Lily cleaning up the cub and they both were sleeping with there heads sticking out of the den. It may look like a still picture because with there head sticking out you will not see as much movement.

If you watch on a warm afternoon Lily will come out of the den and you can watch Hope walking around the den. Pretty cool stuff to watch and listen.

Since I haven't been able to peek at these forums for a few days, I've watched Lily and Hope quite a bit too - pretty darn amazing!!

Neat! I love watching these nests and dens in their natural environments. I was wondering if MN Bound had their loon cam set up yet (no) but found out they have a cam on an eagles nest -- and a Great Horned Owl has moved in! Another way to loose some minutes everyday
