spearing on red lake

has anybody speared on red lake before and was it any good, i am going on a 3rd annual trip up there next weekend and i am wondering if i should bring the spear or just the walleye rods

Slot limits and stained water.

People do it, but be careful.

Know the laws before you go, and know the size before you throw.

Sight fishing walleyes might be fun though if you can find walleyes shallow enough durring the day time.

Look and Releasing the big hoggs that are in there would be fun too.

Don't forget the camera if you do try it!!

maybe try and contact Jonny P or Kelly P, look at the red lake section they are guides up there, stayed with them a few years ago and had a great time, they might be able to help you out

Bring tip ups with sucker minnows and walleye rods... "Red Lake" lives up to its name...you'll go nuts looking at that silty red water all day. Even when the clarity is decent (which isn't saying much up there), it just takes one curious pout (of which there are MANY in Red) to stroll through and stir up bottom again. It takes a while to settle, too, as you can imagine.

Its a great lake if your after a trophy but you need to make sure that you can judge the size correctly.very many lakes near by there to spear as well

I was just up there last weekend. I brought spears to try it but once I saw the water clarity through a normal hole I never even tried. The water is too stained and could only see down about 3 feet. If I was you I would just focus on drinking beer and catching eyes.
