Looking for a group to go trail riding with.

I am looking for a group to go trail riding with some time this winter. My sled is a Polaris sport Touring 550 2 up so not the fastest out there but it can keep up on a trail ride through the woods! Wouldn't mind going with all guys or a family that just needs another guy along to help with the riding chores of loading and unloading. My kids are grown up and gone, but we did a lot of riding with them when they were at home. Up north, Wis, or Mich, anywhere, long day, or over weekend at a resort would be great. I have a 2 place 8X10 trailer with a open spot on it. I really like trail rides, looking for deer, new hunting spots and other wild life. Not just bumbing from bar to bar. Hitting the bar at the end of the day is ok. Let me know if you need someone to fill a spot. Thanks Leech~~ smile

Well I have a XC700 SP that up until this year has been sitting in the garage covered ('99 with 2100 miles-thats sad). Use to do sled trips all over but all my friends sold them. It has been a few years since i have even been on a trail!! I am not a big drinker so not into bar hopping anyways. Could be fun.

Id be up for it! Looks like we have a few in the northern burbs. Esox are you up to trailering north? What area would every one want to get together. Im near Isanti, I see Brooklyn Center, Big Lake, Brainard.

I dont mind trailering as long as its not too far.

My In-laws use to have a cabin on Pelican lake up in Brainard so I have pretty much ridden those trails to death. Don't really like a lot of ditch or just lake running. There are some great trails up by Walker in the Paul Bunyan forest that I know from Deer hunting up there the last 30years. But anywhere in the woods works for me. send an E to pineconesta @ usfamily .com and lets all talk. wink Leech~~

Well I should have read your post in more detail. Im afraid I couldnt do an overnight event yet. I havent ridding in quite a while. Just got my sled 95 MXZ 440 this year for fishing and now im having a ball just ridding. I wouldnt want to push it with the wife or my body LOL. Maybe after I get a few more miles on me and the sled.

Anything within say 60 miles of the cities would be great for me. Are there any good wooded trails near Mill Lacs?

I hate to be a wus but I need to be realistic.

even here in the brainerd lake we could use a another good dumping

like i said i think up that north shore would be fun but 'i have no clue where to go up there

mabr is that to far ??7

Anywhere from princeton to millelacs would be perfect for me.

Leech, do you know the trails in that area? Or is it mostly ditches. I have no experience with classifying what is fun to ride on as long as im riding right now im having fun.

Would be cool to ride through some woods though.

If you want to head south at all Leech there is a cool trail along the MN river down here in Jordan.

Lots of curves and bumpy, but very scenic. I saw the biggest buck of my life down there last year.

Perfect for those touring sleds (I have the same sled) smile

I usually go and buzz around by myself too, so would welcome the company.

Wow this is getting good. Lots of ideas are starting to form up. dtro, I thought about asking you about that last year when I seen you had the same sled and looked like you were at a pretty nice river over look so maybe we can setup something down there on a weekend. I also wouldn't mind hitting around Mill Lacs or the North shore would be very nice. I have not ridden up there in years since my one buddy moved to Colorado. Lets try and firm up some dates and trips. Leech wink

When you say north shore im assuming around Duluth correct?

mabr, gregg52 & back2

I have ridden on the Northshore up the Gunflint trail a few times staying and going out of Grand Marais nice trail. Rode the Moose Walk trail about 5 times up by Finland just long day trips. It makes a nice loop from a bar where you can park have lunch and back nice trail. And stayed at the Crooked Lake Lodge a few times and took the trail 75-80 miles all the way into Ely, had lunch and came back. Very nice trails, but long ride.

As far as other trails I have ridden, lots by Brainard, Outing to Longville, Walker Paul Bunyan forest area, Pine city to Duxbary through Chenqwatana S.F, St,Croix park, and SC Forest. Sand Dunds down by Zimmerman which gets a little busy, all over Marcal, Effie, Togo, Bigfork, Squaw Lake, area and its been a while but some around Grantburg in Wis. So those are a few trails I know and have ridden. Anything look interesting there? smile

I might be up for the Jordan area, not sure my trailers up to it but can always dump the topper and load her in the back of the truck. Would be a few weeks before I can fit it in though. DTRO bring yours down we can always do a sled and fish weekend.

I would trailer to Duluth and ride with a group. Let me know when and where and I will be there.

MNuser, I was reading through some of the old posts and I seen you were looking into riding up near Alexandria Area. Did you ever get up there? I have a cabin not 500 yards from one of the trails and was wondering how the riding was?

I would love to jump in too, I am staying in Ely in the beginning of Feb and doing a midweek run to the north shore, I have not been there on a sled before. I am up for anywhere, it would be fun to go on a run with a bunch of FM'ers.

Its all sounding good. How soon is everyone thinking.

It looks like we are getting some responses, how does the weekend of the 23rd look for those that want to ride some where? Then where, North shore,? Costs for motels/resorts very by area. How long, one day or weekend at a resort-motel? Who needs a trailer spot I have one open? Maybe you can send me an email I posted above and we can hook up off that. Dtro would you want to go for a ride up north or just around your place? It a long winter and other rides may come out of this. I would like to go on a long weekend some where. Esox, don't mean to cut you out but do you want to come all the way up from Iowa if we do go to the Northshore, that would be about 4-500miles drive for you? Send me an Email. Leech

North shore sounds exciting but little to far for me since I'm limited only to weekends now. I spend a week on Vermilion in August and love i up there. Guess I'll be saving part of my 2nd week of vacation for a winter sledding adventure from now on. And yea its a 7-8 hour run for me.
