Eskimo House/Auger

MJBaldwin

Question

I am looking at a new Eskimo Fish house and Eskimo Auger have never owned either one of them before. My brother in-law has the older Eskimo 2 person quick flip fish house that has the bench seat that I really like the new one has two seats which are not bad. The only problem seems to me is the sled seems smaller. Does anyone know if that would be a decent first set up. I have looked at used stuff but for this set up I could get both brand new for around 500 bucks. Let me know yours thoughts about both of them. Also wondering a better size on the auger 8" or 10"?

Thanks guys!

I just sold my Eskimo z71 9" auger. It always ran great even at -30. I had double shoulder surgeries and couldn't handle drilling a bunch of holes a day with it anymore. Great auger, rattled like crazy but I never even choked it. Push primer 4-5 times and it would start in about half a pull. The only downfall is parts are hard to come by. You will probably have to order blades right away. The eskimo augers don't put the bit at an angle to dig like other brands. They blades are flat just pitch at a downward angle. Kind of like a mora hand auger. Hope this makes sense.

I prefer 9" holes. Feet fall through a 10 too easy. 8" can be a pain with your transducer down the hole. 9" just seems right IMO. Too bad they aren't more popular.

I've run an Eskimo Mako auger for 4 years with no trouble. I was all set to get the quick flip 3 (at the same time) but noticed the sled itself was thinner material. I bought the Grand Caravan (3 person but slightly larger than the qf3) because the sled is much thicker - like the Otters. I'd recommend putting hyfax on the qf2 if it doesn't have it, already. I think individual chairs may be more comfy but when I'm fishing with 1 or 2 people there's some room left to set stuff on the bench.

I have an Eskimo 2HP auger with a 8" bit on it. She's about 10-15 years old and runs like a bear. A little on the heavy side but I couldn't beat the price ($140 2 years ago). I was going to get the 10" but the 8" works fine even with the transducer in the same hole I fish. If I do hook a really big fish I just pull the transducer out and fight the fish till I either get it in or lose it

I've had an Eskimo Stingray 4 years...love it. My cousin has had his for 5, and pounds the heck out of it. Runs like a dream. If you want the most bang for your buck, my opinion would be an Eskimo. Great customer service, and most FF stores carry all the parts/blades.
