Clam 2000 will it haul?

I thought that would happen, I just don't think my 08 Ranger(1 wheel wonder) is ready to be my mode of transport yet since all the snow, and I know Tonka does not have any roads yet. Might have to get a sled and add to my storage issues !!!

I have a Clam 2000 and when I go out by myself or with my kid I pull two buckets with stuff inside, a duffel bag with more stuff, and a gas auger. When I say stuff I mean a heater, bait, tackle, my flasher, and some goodies to eat and drink. I have never had a problem pulling it out on any surface. I do strap my stuff down, but never had snow get inside while pulling it.

I used to have a 2000, and if I was going over some terrain that was bumpy, I would open it up and put everything inside (as far away from the hinged side as possible) and then close it on top of it, and carry the bucket, since the shack is pretty light. The top would stay open at a 45 degree angle, but I didnt have to pull two things!

Do clam models 2000 or 5600 have the molded bucket holders in the floor (on top side when transporting) I know the Shappell models do and they are very helpful, but I've been looking at getting a Clam 5600 probably and was wondering if they feature them or not.

The 2000 does...

Only problem I have with this house is the zippers, they dont connect in cold weather and I spend most of the day trying to get my house zipped shut...and when I am packing up and leaving the bars freeze up and it is almost impossible to get them down to fold up the house.

I have a Clam 5600. I've been piling everything on top and pulling it out on the lakes, there aren't any molded bucket holders, but the spots where the hole covers sit will keep things from sliding around a little bit. I try to stay on a path or ice road because it is 10x easier to pull. I've pulled it through a few inches of snow a couple times this year, and sure enough, some snow does end up going inside the suitcase through the hole covers. The last time I went out, I cut a piece of clear poly and placed it underneath the portable and tucked it inside the house in a couple spots so it would stay in place, it kept any snow out of the inside of the 5600, and pulled really nice. However, the poly didn't hold up very well. As soon as I can afford it, I plan on buying an Otter sled that I can just throw everything in and pull with an ATV without worrying about anything falling off or damaging the suitcase. Of course, as soon as I can drive out, all of this is no longer an issue.

My Clam 2000 does not have molded bucket holders either, it was a gift from my wife for xmas (I was expecting a new fleece) and having been out of work since Feb. so, I think I will keep her. For years I have had a 4' x 4' suitcase house made by Mankato Tent poles on the outside and plywood folding floor, and it has to go in the truck to the holes,it does not slide anywhere. I thank all of you for your imput, this site is very informative kinda like fishin' without the chill. laugh

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
