APCfishing
So with all this snow I was curious as to what everyone does?I feel like shoveling the snow around the house lets more light in to reflect off my decoy. Its nice for me because I can see better but is it better for getting fish on the spear?
merkman
Ohhh another "great debate" lol I have done it in the past. The wind will do it for you to a certain extent. It helps me see better. So a fish I might have missed, I will then see. It might make them more skitish though?
Gordie
what merk you dont like debates done it both ways I noticed that during the week when there is less traffic on the ice I had better luck with the snow moved away. thats all I'll bout that. Meat-Run
What about the slush that we are more then likely to encounter as we hit the lakes after this storm? How do you keep slush and snow out of your hole?mr
waterbound
I would clear off an area all around your hole where you will set up to keep the slush out of your hole. If you don't want bare ice around your house spread the snow and slush back around it. I would suggest leaving the ice clear though, I was out yesterday and the lake was very dark because of the snow depth.
merkman
I was out yesterday and the lake was very dark because of the snow depth. Did you have water coming up over your hole, from the weight of the snow on the ice?
waterbound
I forgot the shovel at home so I didn't bother clearing all the slush and snow off around the spear hole, but I did clear the ice around a hole I drilled for my tip-up and there was about 2-3" of standing water above that hole.
