Strike Master Auger Help

Determan

Question

I have a Strike Master express with a 2 H.P. Tecumseh (2-stroke).

It worked fine all last year, I put fuel stabilizer in it last spring and ran it before I stored it.

I was going to fish today. I put fresh fuel in it, and of course it won't start.

It has spark, and if I take the plug out, and give it a shot of ether it will pop, but won't run.

Fuel is coming out of the muffler, but the plug seems dry. I drained it, and shut the fuel off. I pulled it until my right arm is longer than my left. Tuned the fuel back on, and still nothing.

Any suggestions?

It is the newer style diphram carb (no float). I'm going to tear into it again to see what I can find. If I screw it up, I found a new carb for about $40.

I don't seem to have too good of luck with Tecumseh 2 stroke engines.

Maybe it's time for a 4 stroke?????

I just spent 45 minutes working on it. I did not find anything plugged, but the diaphram in the botton of the carb looks pretty flimsy. I can get it to run for 15 or 20 seconds but it runs really rough. I am thinking a carb kit should help.

Hey Zamboni. Thanks for the offer. I may take you up on it over the Christmas break.

I was having problems with mine as well after the first year of use. I brought it up to the guys in big lake HQ and had the best CS experience ever. They tuned up the motor and found my auger was faulty and did everything for no charge and put a ten inch bit on for no cost at all! They are great people and worth a call up there to see if they can help you out!

New carb kit, and new plug, and It's drilling holes again. It won't idle (No idle adjustment on the carb) but it works O.K. at full throttle.

Like most two strokes...It won't run good for very long, but it will run bad forever.

Going shopping for a 4-stroke after Christmas.

If this is the case, it is NOT fixed. Putting a new carb kit on it is a step in the right direction, but if it is not idling, there is still a problem. I believe you can up the idle speed with the screw on the bottom of the carb. I'd run some seafoam through it and just use it as much as you can. Sometimes (not everytime, though) the ports will open themselves up and it will run better.

Or get a 4 stroke, but that won't mean you won't have issues down the road, either.

1st simple thing to try. NEW spark plug. My experience is a old spark plug can be a bad weak plug. you have spark but it doesn't mean you have good plug.

I have found to never trust last years plug tbis year. at least try a new plug.

I agree with Silverado here. I have the same auger, it wouldn't start. Put in a new plug and it runs like a top now.
