luv2fish
I just picked up a cheap trailer for transporting my ATV and fish house in the winter. It is basically a 8' x 9' trailer, and it is in tough shape. It has it's share of surface rust, and the lights do not work. This is my project the next few weeks (the guy I bought it from had already removed the deck for me). I have a plan to attack it, but not sure how many lights I need. Anyone taken on this project and have the answer? I have been searching online, and the gov websites are darn confusing. Thanks in advance if anyone knows! Dave S
For that size of trailer, you'll want a set of yellow marker lights for the front half and obviously tail lights.I'm not sure of the actual regs. This is just what I would do.
jeffreyd
do a search for 49cfr 393.11 this is the dot federal guideline. i think all you need is a tail light, brakelight, and turn signal. you also need a license plate light.
luv2fish
License plate light? This has the lifetime sticker on the front...
luv2fish
One thing I read said 4 marker lights on the side. From what I took from it, 2 on each side 1 in front and 1 in back. The tail lights. I read something else that said for over 80' wide trailers you need something else in the middle of the back? Any clue? cold one sd
Just a suggestion. If you don't already plan on it, put LED lights on it. It may cost a bit more, but I got tired of messing with the cheap tail lights they make now days and replaced them with LEDs. Hopefully I have crawled around in the snow for the last time trying to change bulbs.
Dave S
I agree with the LED lights. The best way to find out what you need, as mentioned earlier, is to ask the DOT.
jeffreyd
an amber one in the front on each side and if you have tail light assembly that has the red side one built in your set. sorry did not know you had a sticker, in az we have perm label on the plate itself and has to have a light. you can do this for under 40 bucks easy. leech~~
It sounds like you are trying to keep the cost down on this project, but you could just go in and buy a boat trailer light kit and it will have a harness and all the lights you would need. jeffv22
The whole kit with everthing you need is only $25 bucks
