I'm not a mechanic by any means. But, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a new spark plug and see if that eliminates the issue.

I only say that because recently mine would idle fine. As soon as I would hit the gas it would shut off. Went and picked up a new plug and runs perfect now.

Good luck!

Is the vent in your fuel cap plugged? If it has the old steel cap yet, if you turn the vent all the way open it doesn't always vent properly. If you chose to clean the filter, do not pull the line off the tank! The line fits on the filter in the tank, and then the barb on the filter is pushed back through the hole in the tank and the hose actually is used as the seal. They are a serious pain to put together after you take them apart. I have put new gas lines on plenty of these and fought with every one!

I purchased a Strikemaster Magnum on Saturday. Went out onto the lake Sunday and drilled 6 holes and it worked great!!! Went to drill 2 more holes and the it only drilled down about 2". On closer inspection I noticed that the auger was spinning in reverse (counter clockwise) , I have several witnesses. I stopped and started it a couple of more times and it was still spinning counter clockwise, backwards so it wouldn't cut the ice. I took it home and started it at home, it now rotated clockwise as it is supposed to. I contacted Strikemaster on Monday morning and was told to bring it in as they have never heard of it or experienced anything like this before. Their factory is about 15 miles from where I live, so I took it there today. They looked at it and swear that it is impossible for it to rotate counter clockwise. I advised them that I will take a video of it should it occur again. Has anyone experienced anything like this, I know how it is geared and it should be impossible for it to occur, but I am wondering if this is a fluke or what?

2 cycles can run backwards but usually will have less power as the timing is not set up for this. If when you start if it backfires is can cause it to rotate and fire/run backwards. I have not seen it on a auger but this is basically how skidoo's reverse works.

Timing to close to TDC MAYBE. Sounds like the auger could be an arm jerker.

Unless you pulling our leg?
