Bigger the better for me, 12-14inches I've even used 16 inchers and you wouldn't belive the little nords that come to take a look Imean as small as the decoy and some times smaller. last year I had a about a 10-11 inch pike circleing my 12-13 inch decoy that was a sight that little pike wouldn't leave that big sucker alone until a8 0r 9 pound pike came in.

how big of a sucker decoy do people use i know everyone uses different sizes?

This is a great question! There is alot of different ideas that can be used here, however, i perfer the middle sized ones. It seems to me that the pike like them more, but wont take them as much. THe smaller ones get smoked by smaller pike, and the bigger ones just dont attrack as much fish, IMO!

This is a total personal preference question.

I prefer XL or XXL Northern Minnows.

I really don't like the bigger live decoys.

I just haven't used them so I don't really know if they work or not.

A friend of mine goes out spearing with me some times and tip-up fishes.

He only uses shiners and out fishes me most days.

I have also heard of people using frozen ciscoes and doing well too.
