Pak Shack?

Amature Hour

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone uses this type of porty. Would like to know the ease of use and how warm it is.

The reason is I have a Perm that I love but I gotta get out and fish, before the other house goes out. I dont care who you are standing out on the ice is just way to cold. I just want something that's not going to set me back to much to only use a few times.

Thanks for any info.

Look into a Clam Scout on some classifieds. Price difference isn't much, and the product is alot better. I had a PakShack and took it back to the store after about 2 uses. One of the zippers broke, and I thought leaning back in the chair made it tough to fish effectively. I got my Scout on clearance at the end of the season for $169, and have been really happy with it.

I bought one for the same reason as you are looking at. Great idea, poor product in my opinion. The chair is pretty flimsy and the arms that hold the shelter material could have been done alot better. If its windy at all the thing takes off every time you stand up.

Just saw a scout on HSO-Classifieds list for $119 and another for $140

I'd jump on one of those!!

I bought one a couple of years ago and I don't like it. If its windy at all, the thing wants to fly away on you unless you are sitting in it. I tried putting a grommet in the back so that I could anchor it down with an ice screw, but it just ripped right out on the first day I tried to use it.

Anyone want to buy one cheap?

I picked a Pak Shak up on sale a couple years ago for $45. I've got to agree with most of the other people on here: It's a great idea, but they cut corners in the actual construction and materials.

The Pak Shak does indeed want to fly away in any sort of wind at all when you are not sitting in it (although you can fold the cover down to get it to stay when you are not in it), and the metal in the cover is pretty chintzy. There also isn't a lot of room underneath the cover.

Of course, all these shortcomings are what makes it light and affordable, too. I use mine on days when I am just going out to fish for a couple hours and it is a little cold to sit on a bucket, (and not too windy!).

On a side note, I just picked up a Team Wild one-man portable, and am really looking forward to trying it out.

Well I have a HT Polar Express. Basically the same and have used the Pac Shack. First of all they are a totally different breed of shelter than the sleds. They are very easy to trans port if you are trying to keep weight down. Plenty of pockets for your jigs, thermos and bait.. As far as warmth. I use a small heater in mine and very warm in there and on sunny days there is no need for heat. There are many good deals on HSO-Classifieds for new so they are affordable.. I have both of these now and a clam. I use each depending on how mobile I want to be.

For got one thing. I keep mine from moving when I get out by just resting my auger handle on the seat.

Just my 2 cents but I believe you will be quite pleased for the price.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
