Anyone pick one of these up yet?

I sat in one at GM and decided it was time to upgrade, I can't believe how much room and comfort you have in this flipover!

The price tag hurts a little, especially since I just picked up a flipover last season (got it used at least, but I best not make a habit out of this).

My only worry is that it sits too tall when folded up for the back of my truck, I like to have the tonneau cover be able to close on top of it to keep it protected from the elements (and thieves) while traveling. Would love to hear from anyone that has one and any thoughts you have on your purchase!

I decided it was time for an upgrade this year as well. Sold my Clam 5600 and figured I would get a two or three man flip over. I planned on replacing it with another Clam product, but after looking over this years line up, I decided to go another route. I love my 2007 fishtrap scout, but these new clams just don't seem to be as high quality (IMO). Looked to the Frabill Predator, was totally impressed with it. The poles, the 900 denier tent, the seats, I just liked everything about it.

Anyway, yes I picked one up. They are spendy and heavy, but the way these things are built they should last for many years. I haven't got to try it out yet, but I've had it set up in the garage three times, and am more impressed with this house now than when I first looked at them. Absolutely can not wait for ice to try this thing out!

I can't speak on the tonneau cover as I have a suv and height isn't an issue for me (barely fits length wise though). Also takes up quite a bit of space in the garage.

Just collected cash for my current portable, so now I think I'm pretty much committed to this purchase - gotta have something to fish out of!

Would you be willing to pull a quick measurement for me? I'm wondering what kind of height it has when folded up & seats pulled. The site says 26", but I don't want to believe it smile.

I have the frabil preditor and i love it! its got a ton of room and very durrable! its a little heavy but so worth it. i just did a quick measurement for ya and its exactly 26" with the seats pulled. you'll love this house!

[PoorWordUsage]. There's no way that will fit under my truck bed cover frown.

I don't think that's going to stop me though, I may just have to invest in the canvas cover for the predator and make sure everything is tucked in it nice and neat.

I have noticed that the new clams with the blacked out interier are not as heavey as the original material. That is the main reason why I am not going with clam. It also looks as if the black material might sweat???? I also love my clam scout. I need to upgrade to something a little bigger.

I looked at Frabill before I bought my HT Iceman Escape one-man flip-over. The HT had a 600 Dernier Canvas and the Frabill had a thinner nylon fabric. The HT was only $200. But the sled is shallower and I like the Frabill sled with the storage compartments in the trax. For now I will stick with my HT. But the wife said she would like to try ice fishing sometime. I guess on that day I'll have to fish outside while she stays warm inside.

Icefishing21 - can you tell me if your predator has a pair of boots on all 3 beam corners? Mine only came with two pairs, I think I am missing a set (the gray corner socks/boots that velcro onto the bars to protect the canvas).

I believe he is talking about the new corner protectors on the modular hinge points on the new R2 Tec? If so, they are "Boots" made to corner cap the modular flex joints on the support frame to add a greater level of protection from rubbing and possible wear and tear at the corners. Good idea, and they stay put well so no extra hassle to have them there, piece of mind thing.

Called Frabill and ordered the boots, 2 pairs with shipping was $10, reasonable enough I thought, she said to put them on poles 1 and 3? So the big question is counting from the back or the front? A post earlier said they were on 2 and 4?

I think they are supposed to be on the poles furthest back, then the 3rd from there (top front).

My shack came pre assembled from frabill (they had them all together at the ice show), and they have the boots on 2 & 3 which is wrong according to what you have found out.

I threw reflectix up, so i don't think I'm going to worry about it. At $10 for a pair shipped, it's almost worth it for me to hit the other two pole sets though!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
