fishermatt
I'm getting my Portable ready to go, since there's no ice I've had more time than usual. I have found the Luminator Lights to be super easy to use to fit most any situation. I just added an 8" piece of 14 gauge wire to each end ( You can use twist ties, zip ties, or string if that's what you have on hand. My apologies if the pictures are a bit large. Then you can hang it up pretty much any way you want. It's super flexible so you can get the light to shine just where you want it. I have found with this light mounted on the middle bar of my portable that I can see my line (4 lb test mono) while I'm fishing at night, which I think is a huge factor for jigging. I also rigged up a system to use outside for tipups. It's pretty simple, has a battery holder on the bottom which also keeps it stable. Then I just turn on the light at dark. I actually clipped off the alligator clips, then spliced in 40 more feet of wire, then attached spade connectors so it's always connected. I also added an inline switch that won't turn on by itself. Some of my buddies are wiring these lights directly into their Permanent shacks too. You can just staple it to the ceiling, or attach it to a board, then mount the board wherever you want it. It seems like 3 of the Luminator lights is adequate for an 8X16 shack.

fishermatt
I should note a couple things about the Luminator light:1. Do not yank or strecth this light, or at least half of the light WILL go out. There's a copper strip that runs the length of the light and if that gets stretched out, the light goes out from the stretched point onward. This light is pretty durable, but the above will break it.2. This light is great for lighting up a specific space, but you'll probably also want to carry a small flashlight for walking around. Big Buck Buster
They look just like the Best Hong Kong LED lights.
Quetico
Never use Best Hong Kong for anything ever.
TiNK3R
Everyone is so touchy on which LED to go with. I use the "unpopular" one for 2.5 years now without a single issue. I run two porties with a total of 7 strips 3 sizes. Meh apples to apples I guess.
harvey lee
I simply do not want to see people get burned. Best Honk Kong is great if you get lights that work. Many have not and then they do not know who you are.Why not warn members about the poor CS?
schweady
Guess I got lucky on my B H K light. I love the single 96 cm strand of bright white. Maybe the Luminator needs to come out with a longer strand, like B H K or the super bright lights...
BoxMN
I too have had good luck with the b hk. lights, but agree the wire is too thin. I solved that, but will get the luminator lights when I order/need them again, for just the reason of larger wires coming off it. I will wait until it is available in longer piece though. It looks great though.
fishermatt
Thanks for the suggestions Schweady and BoxMN. I decided on the 24cm (9.5 inch) light to get me started and get the word out, because I think the 9.5 inch light is the most versatile. But I can see where a longer strip would be good too. Some time in 2010 I will try to offer a longer strip. I am also working on a "mechanic's version" that has a black back so the light only shines one way (like a trouble light). Black Electrical tape works to accomplish this, but isn't very permanent. I am open to any and all suggestions and will do my best to provide quality products for You! TallPaull
Will the Luminator 12 volt LED lights be on display at the Ice Show this weekend? Would like to check them out prior to purchasing.
fishermatt
TallPaull, sorry they will not be there. Booths way too expensive. I am working on getting them into some retail stores, but so far only have them in north central MN.
