buddy heater run times

According to the manual

http://www.mrheater.com/upload/newsletter/78438CAL%20MH18B_eng_rev_a.pdf

Operating time will vary depending on the heater setting

and the supply cylinder size. (One 1 lb. cylinder: 1.5 to 6

hours. Two 1 lb. cylinders: 3 to 12 hours. Two 20 lb.

cylinders: 50 to 220 hours.) Heater may be operated

from quick disconnect, one or both tank swivel inlets.

i have a 2 man portable and i use a buddy heater and the 1LBers usually last me like 4-5 hrs. sometimes more, sometimes less depending on how cold it is. that 4-5 hrs is usually in 10-20 degrees tho

i always try to bring at least 2 full ones with me each time i go out. you never know how long your going to be out for, and if your out all day and use up your only propane tank, as soon as the sunsets and the fish start biting, your going to wish you had more.. always keep a spare in the back of your truck or something like that

also note, i usually keep my buddy heater on low. it doesnt take much to keep my little shack warm. if you have it on high, your obviously going to burn thru the tanks a lot faster

I have the buddy with just the one nozzel for 1 tank at a time. I usually run it on high until it warms up than turn it down to the lower setting. Doing this in my small 2 person portable or in my 1 man clam fishtrap I can get about 5 to 6 hours. I always carry at least one extra tank with me cause it sure can get cold fast without the heater on!

The run times people are quoting sound about right. If you're someone - like me - who uses a portable but doesn't move around much once you're set up it's well worth getting the extension hose to hook it up to a larger tank. I bought one at Menards for a few bucks and my buddy sets his 20lb tank outside the house. Can't remember how much I paid, but it was under $10.

Do you use a regulator or the filter?

I bought the black one. The only thing I wish I would have done differently is buy the 12 foot instead of 5 foot hose. The 12 footer wasn't much more, I just thought 5 feet would be plenty. It is, but having a little more "slack" would have been nice.

Either way, still better than dealing with the 1 pounders.
