Big 10

Cooter

Recommended Posts

I see there are 6 Big 10 teams ranked right now: MI St, MI, Purdue, IL, MN, and OH St.

Watched MI St almost lose at home to Gonzaga earlier this week, haven't seen any other games yet. Looking forward to the season, afraid the Badgers will have a mediocre year.

Lots of time for things to play out. I think there will be a bunch of really close games this season. The Big 10 has some talent and I think there will be plenty of upsets and ranking flip-flops all season. Lower seeded teams will win home games against the higher seeds, etc. Gophers look good but we could have been better if it wasn't for all the off court stuff!

Big Ten should be strong for once. I think last week or two weeks ago Digger, Bilas, and Dickie V all picked the Big Ten as this year's best conference of basketball. I'm skeptical until they can finally win a Big Ten/ACC challenge. Big East or ACC until then.

Purdue pulled out a tough one tonight against Tennessee, Iowa is playing tough against #3 Texas, and Cooter is staying up late to watch Wisconsin in the nightcap with Arizona in the Maui Classic.

Way too late for me but I see they got a win, congrats to Purdue - I'd like to see them have a great year. Iowa didn't get the win but must have played well to hang in with the #3 team. Gonna be a great season!

IOwa sucks and will be lucky to finish with 10 wins.

they got outscored by Texas in 17-2 to start the 2nd half.

2 cake wins for the Gophs in the Big Ten.

Big 10 does look like the old days in B-ball.

Go Gophs, and if they can get White and mbake to play,,,they have the talent and depth only a few teams can match!!!

Did a little snooping and so far the ACC has won 3 and Big 10 has 2 wins:

Purdue beat Wake Forest

NW beat NC State

VA Tech beat Penn St

Maryland beat Indiana

UNC beat Mich St.

Todays matchups:

IL vs Clemson

MN vs Miami

Boston vs MI

Duke vs WI

Fl St vs Ohio St.

The series is currently 5-4 with Duke losing by 3 with 10 min left and Fl St. down 11 to OSU. Big 10 has to sweep these two games to take the Challenge for the first time ever, thanks to Clemson completely collapsing.

Wisconsin had to play out of their head and Duke had to struggle for Wisconsin to win and that's what happened. The Badgers didn't play the typical Big 10 style of basketball you usually see and it looked more like an ACC team the way they ran the court and were firing three's (and making them).

That's the only way a Big 10 team is going to compete with an ACC team and they looked good. The question is whether or not they will continue this style of play or fall back into the boring slug-n-chug basketball that the majority of the teams in the Big 11 are famous for.

The Kohl Center has been a tough place for anyone to play.

I'd expect with better coaches in the conference the Big Ten will be pushing back into the upper echelon of basketball leagues...it's been a couple decades since they were the premier league. However I don't think you'll see too many squads abandon the defense the league is known for.

    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
    • I went ahead and watched some of the MLF coverage.  Wheeler didn’t make the cut but the bigger story was the Poche/Avera fallout.   Kinda funny listening to both sides of the story and putting together the scenario, reading between the lines.
