John478
I have an 870 with smooth bore slug barrel on it. That I recently but a red dote on. Since I no longer need the rifle sights. I was wondering if it would be more accurate if I but my regular 28” barrel with an improved cylinder choke on the gun? Instead of the shorter 20” smooth bore slug barrel. Just thinking about it I would think the longer barrel would be better.Second. If you think the longer barrel would be more accurate. Would I dare change barrels with out sighting it in. I’m going on a park hunt this weekend and wouldn’t have time to sight it in.
picksbigwagon
If you can't sight it in, use the barrel that is sighted in. this summer, check it out, see which one is more accurate.
Twins 57 Fan
Seems to me without rifle sights there would be no sighting it in. Just aim and fire.I personally would prefer to use a rifled barrel with sabot slugs. A scope is even better but iron sights will do.
Gordie
smooth bore with red dot seems to me the only one to choose you make it accurate with the red dot and the shorter barrel is a plus in the woods. less weight, faster swing, and the smooth bore is designed for slugs hence the name slug barrel, it may not be rifled but it will work great. I shoot a smooth bore slug barrel and I'm very satisfied with it.what ever you choose you should sight it in and yes if you use the long barrel you point and aim and if its off you could just wound the deer or if you sight it in and it hits high and to the left at least you can compensate for you shot or at 25 yrds it could be dead on but at 75yrds it might be way off.what ever you choose good luck
96trigger
The barrel length will not make a difference.
