jwmiller33
i have this one deer antler shed in my room and it was found by my uncle several years ago, and he died while i was younger. it has a tag on it and i was wondering if you guys could tell me what the stuff on the tag means. specifically, what is the code (001) mean? and where is the area it was found? where is section 26? here are some pics... that is my iTouch next to it, so you can have some scale. and here are the pics of the tag my uncle was an avid hunter and fisherman and was on his way to becoming a prominent contributor to north american whitetail magazine (he went on hunts for the magazine, wrote, and did photography as well) when he fell asleep at the wheel one night while driving back from a hunting trip in canada and crashed and died. i also have a deer head mounted of a really nice 10+ pointer that was also his and i kind of cherish these items i have of his, because he was the one who took me fishing all the time when i was really young. so that is why i want to know more about the tag on this shed
MUSKY18
To me it looks like a tag that was put on the antler by a shed hunter.
LakeDocktor
The code could be possibly a GPS waypoint. The other information to me would mean that it was found in Whitewater Area Township in Section 26 of that township. Pick up a county plat book and you could see where Section 26 is in that township. zzammon
jwmiller,I'm a surveyor in Mankato. After a bit of research I see there is a Whitewater Township in Winona County. Your shed could possibly have been found in Section 26, Whitewater Township, Winona County, Minnesota. There may be other Whitewater Townships in other states, but this is the only whitewater township in MN. I don't know what the 001 means. email or post if you would like a bit more info on the area.[email protected]
matthothand
Maybe the code number was a form of entry for a catalog like an inventory number. 001 could be the first shed found of the season.
jwmiller33
thanks for the input guys. it says on the tag that my uncle found the shed in January of 1989, so this shed is pretty old. so i dont think the code has anything to do with GPS coordinates.matthothand-i think you are onto something with the 001 being the first shed found of the season (or year), since it was found in January. thanks for the help guys
