Larson15
I bought a new slug gun about 3 years ago and put a 2x7 Bushnell Banner shotgun scope on it and it has not been very consistent for me. Everytime I go to the range its always a lil off. I am looking to upgrade to a better quality scope, either a Nikon or Leupold. Is it necessary to put a shotgun scope on a slug? A salesman at the gun shop told me that the only difference is that shotgun scopes are made to sight in at 75 yrds whereas rifle scopes are 100. I always thought that shotgun scopes had more impact resistance due to recoil and eye relief. He said they are all the same?
fishhuntwork
I have been looking at the nikon slughunter, it either comes in a 2x7 or 3-9x40. Its a bdc, so you sight it in at 50 yards and they should be good out to 200 yards. This is the one I'm going to purchase, they run about $259. picksbigwagon
are your scope rings tight? are they tight to the base? if they come loose, use some locktite on them to keep them from shaking out. I have been considering a scope on my slug gun, even got the saddle mount for it but I didn't like how high off the stock I had to raise my head to see through the red dot display that I had bought. I have Nikon makes a great scope, you couldn't go wrong with that
96trigger
Shotgun scopes need to be more resistance to shock. My dad bought a Simmons scope, shot it twice, the cross hairs fell, sent it back, got a new one, shot it twice, the cross hairs fell. Sent it back, bought a leopold, end of story. Moral of the story.. You get what you pay for. When that big buck hangs up 75 yards away, you want something that you are 100% confident in. You sound like you have lost a little confidence in your bushnell. I know I would. Everytime I went out I'd be wondering if it was off.Like picks said, the cross hairs themselves really shouldn't/can't move. Double check your rings and bases, make sure the scope is fitted properly in them. Use locktite if need be.
Larson15
I have checked the rings and they are tight. Slugs are too expensive to keep going to the range and checking if the scope is on. I got Nikon on all my other guns and never had a problem. My confidence in this Bushnell is gone. I think I am going to go and pickup the Nikon Prostaff 2x7-32 for $130. I think this scope should do the trick.
Gordie
I have a bushnell banner 1.75 x 4 and have not had any problems with it and I still run a old B square mount as much as I want a nikon I still love the bushnell for the shotgun and I think it is really great to have a scope on a shotgun at a 100 yards its no differnt than a scope on a rifle it just lets you zero in on the kill zone. Larson15
Well I stopped at G.M. today and put a Nikon Omega 3x9 on it. It has extended eye relief and fits well on the gun. I will shoot with it over the weekend and let everyone know how it fares

Same here Elwood. Problem is I don't slug hunt any longer and I own 3 or 4 slug guns, heck I don't even know any more.
