JIvers
I'll be hunting southeast Minnesota's 3A season in a week and a half, so I drove up to Fillmore County this past weekend to take care of some hunting and non-hunting business. While I was there I took my boat to Dresbach for some walleye/sauger fishing.Anyhow, based on what I saw, as of Sunday I would guesstimate that 95% of the corn in Fillmore and Houston counties is still standing. What's more, I would guess 80% of the soybeans are still in the field, too. There are supposed to be a few dry days this week, which will help people get the beans out, and make some progress on the corn. I don't put a lot of stock in longer-range weather forecasts, but there is supposed to be more rain coming before the 3A season starts.Long story short, if you are hunting 3A, you may want to plan on there being a lot of corn still standing opening weekend. picksbigwagon
I am hunting the first season in Iowa and I am hoping things dry out soon enough so that the corn is pulled out down there. Things are wet in the fields right now. 3B might not be any better as far crops being out either.....There's always the last week of muzzloader (just kidding)
96trigger
Doesn't look good right now picks. They are talking Middle of November before most of the corn is out. I would suspect that a lot of picking will get done during the 3A season and the week after. Hopefully by 3B, most of it will be out, but right now I doubt it. There are still farmers with a lot of beans in the field right now. Some of them have said screw it and taken off the bean heads and put on the corn heads to fill their dryers. vister
sorry fellas, but 2 or 3 nice days is by no means enough to pray for to get crops out of the ground. not only are the fields saturated to where you can hardly drive an atv in them, but all of the rain keeps adding moisture to the beans. we were combining beans 3 weeks ago at 12 percent moisture, not the beans are twice as big and squishy like peas! corn, on the other hand, is usually harvested at around 13 percent moisture. well, now across much of central MN it is 35-40 percent moisture! even too wet for high-moisture corn. some guys are harvesting as they are hitting the panic button, dishing out 3 times as much to dry their corn down. imagine if we get 6 inches of snow, and it stays! farmers will lose 30 percent or more of their bean yeilds.
