aberg22
What is peoples thoughts on Buck Jam. I have been having great luck with the stuff. I pore the gal on a big dead tree and put the trail camera up. I have deer and coons every night. In fact the first night We were drinking beer having a campfire and shooting gun until 3am I have a picture of 4 does at 4:45am. 35 yards from hunting shack. Also click on video of my shack and tell me what you think. Thanks Andy
CrowRiverRat83
Awesome place. Good job on the build. As far as Buck Jam...I have used it myself on our property with much of the same results. We just have a 1 acre lot, so its nice to bring in the wildlife to look at. I just poured it onto a rotted stump, works good.

DoubleLunger
I personally dont like it. Block Topper and C'mere deer have worked way better for me in the past.
lakevet
Might want to check legality. Evolved Habitats HSOforum describes Buck Jam as "a food bait attractant". Just because it can be sold in Minnesota doesn't automatically mean its legal to use.lakevet
lakevet
C'mere deer HSOforum has a warning to check your state's regs before using their product as it may fall into the category of being considered a bait. Block Topper has molasses, which I believe is considered bait and not legal. Be sure to check to see if what you use is legal. That would be your local CO or call the DNR. You the hunter are responsible and will be the one paying the fine not the one who marketed or sold you the product! " I didn't know" usually doesn't work as an excuse. Doesn't seem right that they can market and sell stuff that isn't legal to use without informing the purchaser. They get your money and you get the fine.lakevet
Kyle
buck jam is legal.
MUSKY18
Where would one go specifically to see what is and what isn't legal products, i.e. C'Mere deer?
aberg22
In mn dnr hand book it saysLiquid scents, salt, and minerals, are not considered bait or feed.
lovebigbluegills
Personally, I look awfully close at the ingredients of anything. That ought to tell you if it's considered bait or not.
deerminator
This debate comes up nearly every year. The DNR has told me in the past, and lcornice can correct me if worng, that an easy rule of thumb to use is does it have food of any sort in the product ingredients? If so, other than salt or minerals, of course, then its illegal. However, the DNR CO I talked to also told me if it has artificial flavoring in it, it's not illegal. For instance, apple or corn flavoring would be legal, but real apples or corn, whether it be chunks or juice or whatever, makes it illegal. Bottom line is the smell test, if it feels wrong, it probably is. Personally, I haven't seen salt or minerals be enough of a draw during hunting season to enhance your chances of sucess. Deer use my mineral lick regularly during the summer and fall months, but that means once every day or two whenever they happen to be passing through. Nowhere near the same consistency as a food source like a crop field and rarely during the fall.
lovebigbluegills
I was just out at W-mart, and happened to take a look at a container of buck jam, and a ways down the list of ingredients was NATURAL and artificial apple flavoring. The natural part, i think, would be enough for the right CO to consider it bait.C'mere deer has soybeans not too far down the list of ingredients. As mentioned above, just because it's sold in Minnesota, doesn't mean that it's legal to use. mrklean
for c'mere deer are the soybeans pretty much a powder? I would guess so but havent used it
