Hey BK what area/areas are you talking about? If your talking state forests/wildlife management areas I know the DNR has closed some roads and trails to motorized traffic in some areas. I believe some of it has to do with some of the roads being in poor condition, some of it to prevent further destruction of the roads/trails, and some to prevent conflicts between recreational 4 wheeler drivers and hunters. If it is a state area you could always check in with the DNR to see why they closed it, and/or what your options are.

Sheas Lake WMA was getting a lot of vandalism and littering going on. I know the south access isn't posted with signs and there is no way to get on there at the moment without crossing private land.

The last time I tried to access the south woods, there was a truck parked sideways in the road. After the snow flies, I know it's used as a snowmobile trail.

i know about swan lake on 169 between st peter and mankato i asked the dnr and they said they had shut the entrance due to it being really bad for vehicles. They said it was open for hunting and said you can park right at the entrance. I asked would i get a ticket blocking the entrance and they said no. I went there last thursday i want to say and the ORANGE tape was cut like somebody actually went through I dont have 4x4 on my van so i wouldnt dare but i left spot for either one more vehicle or someone else to drive down.

the last time I was to sheas a couple years ago the road was pretty rough to say the least a car never would have made it and it was quite a ways back in there and another ways to walk to hunt now its a lot longer oh well

The last time I was out there, there was a full living room set at the south portion of Sheas WMA.

There was a gate on the north side, making it a 1/4 mile walk to get to the "former" parking area. Also on the North half and prior to the gate, the ruts from the 4x4 trucks were approaching 3 feet deep. People were driving in the fields destroying crops to get back there. I have also encountered abandoned vehicles, 2 starving coon hound pups, an increasing amount of garbage from the weekly beer parties that were going on and a smashed in gate at the North access. The gate occurred one evening after I was out there hunting. The next day it looked like a V.

Both the North and South parking areas were a popular site for the party crowd since they were hidden from the roads.
