eurolarva
I bought this from Fleet Farm in June for around $40. I know this is kind of low end but talk about backlash city. It is a spin caster. I exclusively use Trilene and tried both 4 and 6 lb. I have tried unreeling the entire spool on the lake with just a swivel at the end and still back lashes. I was fishing for crappie yesterday so I hooked it up to one of my ice fishing poles and same thing. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix? gunflint
The "fix" is using a spinning reel.
Cicada
I have mostly Quantum equiptment and have had very good luck with them. Are you talking about a spinning reel? If so, do you mean you are getting line twist? Or do you have a baitcaster which does get backlashes? I am assuming that by "unreeling" you mean that you let line off the reel and trolled forward in the boat to relax the line. Is this the case? If you ar still getting line twist, try removing some of the line. I will get this if I overfill the reel. If you have a baitcast reel, set the reel tension every time you put a different lure on. To do this put the lure on, push the line release button and adjust the little knob behind the handle until the lure falls slowly. Too fast a decent and you will get the spool unwinding faster than the lure is pulling the line off the reel.
TurnUpTheFishing
Yeah thats kind of the nature of the beast when using spincast gear, it happens sooner or later. I find it hard to spool the suckers without the line getting twists.
eurolarva
Okay poor wording. It is a a spinning reel (open face) It is a quantum XT05. When I least expect it about 5 loops of fishing line will fall off the reel creating a real bad mess. It does not seem to matter how much line is on the reel either full or only 3/4 full. Because of the problems I had with casting I put it on one of my ice fishing poles and it does the same thing while unspooling line five or six loops of line will come off all at one time. As I said before I have tried un-spooling all the line while under way and then re-spool using finger pressure on the line while reeling it back in. gunflint
It sounds like you might have a little too much line on it. The line should be about an 8th of an inch below the edge of the spool. Also changing over to a super line can put and end to twisting. Good luck.
LoonASea
Also when you troll with all the line out to relax it cut every thing off it ,,,no swivel ,,,no split shot ,,,nothingIts gotten twist out of my lines nicely that way LAS
eurolarva
The reel did this four times with me just cutting the line each time, so the reel is no where near too full. I bought a Sedona 500 FD reel after this and what a wonderful reel. This at least ruled out bad fishing line. I will try one more time with the 4 lb trilene xl and let all the line out without anything on the end. If that don't work I will put power pro on it and use a vanish leader. The last time I had this much problems with a reel was a browning reel and those ended up in the lake.
