Ice house lights

Well I got a couple sets of the OPS LED Ice House Lights from the www.outdoorprostore.com here on FM and hung them in the otter mag lodge today. Man it looks like they will be the ticket. Nice long leads to get to my battery and they are super bright. Look very well built as well. 1 set seems to be bright enough to do what I want but another set over the door pole as well would give a guy way more than needed I think. I dont like the area by my holes bright anyways.

For the price they are more than I expected thats for sure.

I also got 1 set of the battery pack ones if I need more light and they say they will get like 60 hours off 3 triple A's. Thats a lot of hours.

Ill report back during the season with a better report.

If I get 40 hours Ill be happy but 60 will be awesome. They will be stand by or extra light mostly. Ill be running the 1 set off the marcum battery mostly. Sitting in a dark garage tonight the 1 set off the marcum battery sure looked good. Then I put the second battery pack above the door and man that was really bright. Like I said before too bright for me, I like my hole area just so I can see the bobber top or my deadstick tip. Nothing any brighter usually.

Maybe Ill set the 2nd set up on the back window pole. That way Ill really be able to see all my gear in the tub.

Now Im getting pumped for the St. Paul Ice Show and then some hard water crappies and eyes.

in all of my houses i have run the rope lights from cabels, i love them things. i also have propane lights but those rope lights strung on the top of the walla and around the baseboards man do they light up the holes, if you look around for them you can get runs of them for around 12 if you find them on sale

Those OPS LED lights look very nice.

Here is what got my attention, "commercial grade wire in them to help with breakage."

I have rope lights taped to the poles in my Otter. They have been OK for lighting. The plug from the rope to wire has a tendency lose connection. Upon further inspection I noticed the wire has a lot of cracks in the insulation from it from bending it in cold temps.

Note to self to replace the wire before using the rope lights again. Or maybe just replace them with the Outdoor Pro Series LED Ice Fishing Lights.

Anyone has picture of them installed in their house?

I guess for a perm they would work fine if you got enough and strung them in the right spots. They sure would go a long long time on a battery in a warm perm thats for sure.

Otherwise there are so many 12 volt light options I think I would go that way. After all the weight of a big battery in a perm shack isnt a problem unlike a portable.

Frank Ill see if I can get some pics. I put everything away but Ill try to get it back out in the next few days.

Note from admin, the lights below are not the ones with crack issues.

This is one of my concerns.... I was thinking of getting rope lights but was wondering how that would work with taking down the port so many times what that would do to the string. If you leave them on the poles or take them off when you are finished. Just wondering what other ideas that are out there if anyone would like to share them. I have the basic head lamp that works but trying to come up with something else this year.

The lights above should work fine. I believe that Frank was talking about the rope lights cracking and not the OPS LED Ice Fishing Lights with the heavy duty wiring that's sold in the Outdoor Pro Store.

With the Outdoor Pro Store lights, you can either tape them to your poles or use zip ties and they will serve you well.

You could also just wrap them around each time you need them. You can get the set that can use the MarCum battery or the set that uses AA Batteries.

I will be hanging my battery packed ones each time out by the double J hooks I have. They will be stored in my Sportsmans caddy when running around on the sled.

The ones I use on the marcum battery will be taped or zip tied on and I think they will do fine.

Like I said Ill give a more in depth report after a few trips out with them.

Heres a tip for ya guys that will make your lighting system work better and longer.

Drop in at Gander, check the ATV/UTV accessories section...maybe even the clearance section has some in it...now look at the ATV single, double, and full cross bar pack accessory bags with top straps or Velcro retainers.

The 2 bag system will hook on the top support bar in the rear or in the front corners of your shack and hold the Vex battery and other critical gear like digital camera, GPS, whatever should remain warm and safe... even a couple spare 1 lb propane bottles.

Advantages are this...shorter and cleaner looking wiring job...less junk hanging, battery stays nice and warm up there and will last longer, keeps stuff up out of the way while fishing, and easy to access. It will fold down into the back of the tub for travel. I installed a whole system in my shacks last year and man does it works great!

In short, there are a lot of reasonably priced ATV and UTV accessories out there that do a heck of a good job for ice house storage systems, and looks good doing it. I highly recomend you look them over.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
