Any good ideas?

I’m a student at the University of St.Thomas and an entrepreneurship major. I’m only a junior right now but for our final class project when I’m a senior we have to think of and write up a business plan for a company we would like to start.

My brother and I have been musky fishing for about 4 years now and have been talking about what it would be like to start a new Musky line of lures and rods, maybe even some specialized fishing apparel. We have thought of a bunch of good ideas for products and some things we could change here and there but the only person I have discussed these things with is my brother.

I figured I would ask all you avid musky anglers if you had any good ideas about things you wish you had in the past or things that you think would make musky fishing easier?

Remember this is just a school project, I don’t want this to turn into a lecture about how hard it is to start a business and what not I just figured it would be fun to see others ideas. Also I’m not doing this to steal ideas and make them my own! If you have a good idea but you don’t want people to know about it then don’t post about it wink

You need to start a business that will cater to women and teenagers don't waste your time on Muskie fishermen we just live on the scraps left behind from the aforementioned group that keeps us around for a paycheck.

Then take my money and go fishing LOL

Candles, aromatherapy, horse garbage and stupid hand bags you can get 500 bones for and $100.00 ripped jeans stitched by a 5 yo Chinese kid.

To put that same $599.91 profit in your pocket from Muskies guys its gonna cost you 10 grand.

The ideas we had are pretty basic...

My brother is a digital-design major so we figured that he could use that to make some new tackle and what not, also some ideas on how to keep your tackle more organized and accessible..

This is a school project so we are allowed to reach and try some new things so I figured I would just see what you all thought. I suppose I didn’t have to ask you for your ideas but ask more what you all think about the idea of starting a new musky store/ lure-line?

There are some guys that are trying to Market a clothing line that are colors that Muskies supposably can't see, you could show big profits with a clothing line and it isn't main stream yet.

Market a reel that doesn't get your hands wet so they can stay warm this time of year when casting.

Market an ice fishing rod that has heated eyelits so they don't freeze, maybe a heated handle so you don't have to wear gloves. (thats ice fishing but a pretty good 1)

Market a different sounding line of topwaters.

market a new Trolling motor that you can run off or water instead of batteries! maybe a mini steam powered motor? or hydrogen? lol or maybe a 101 volt trolling motor that runs off of a 12 volt instead of a 36 volt and lasts longer (super maximizer), turns quicker, ect.

I could go on and on with crazy ideas, I miss my Marketing classes. They were cake classes and the projects were fun.

I was thinking more of a battery powered heating system and one that keeps the eyelets from freezing up.

That's the ticket. Conductive electronics are fairly inexpensive. It seems like you would just have to find that sweet spot in the temp range to allow eyelets to stay open, hands warm and not have the line burn up. You could maybe find a way to use ceramic inserts as a heat conductive source. Talk to am engineer. I know the idea got my wheels turning. Good luck.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys! I love the whole warm handle idea... I’m out fishing musky all the time this part of year and my hands getting cold is one of my biggest problems!

As for the clothing thing.. is it true that musky react to the color of your clothing? Someone told me not to wear bright colors because it would scare musky off... anyone know if this is true?

some think so. I try to wear nuetral colors when musky fishing but i am not sure it has any great impact. In fact, i caught a 45" boatside wearing my blaze orange rain coat that i wear for deer hunting. didn't affect that catch at all. i think a fish could see your silohette regardless of color. We are talking about an animal with a brain the size of a pea.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
