Baitcaster repair

My brother managed to wreck his Abu Black Maxx. For whatever reason when he goes for a hookset it responds by going into free-spool mode. What should I be looking at when I take this apart? It is not a drag/free spool button issue, at least externally.

I always call Pure Fishing and they have me send it in for the repais in Iowa. Very fast and almost lightning service. I have shipped out on a Monday and had it back by Thursday.

Nick, my experience with those reels is not good. Don't put a whole lot of money into it. To be honest, I think they are a piece of krap.

Sounds like the instant anti reverse sleeve is worn. It's a $6 part that is easy to replace. Sometimes it just needs to be cleaned and oiled.

It's not a bad reel. My dad has a few on his trolling rods.
