fasternu
I was hunting just north of Bemidji and found a gun at a landing. I couldn't just leave it there for some little kid to find, so I picked it up and dried it out. Call me at 218-556-7096 to claim.

fasternu
The gun has been reunited with it's owner. Would I want a free gun? Sure. But every time I would have looked at it I would have felt like I stole it. Plus, it's called Karma. Someday if it ever happens to me, I hope that I would get my gun returned to me. Lesson learned is to put a name/phone inside of your gun case to have it returned easier.Yes, I did have a chat with the deputy sheriff. duckster
fasternu,Good job, you did the right thing. There are many that would have kept it. I think that you are right about the karma thing. What goes around comes around. Have a good season.-Duckster
FishonTom
Fasternu, Good job, that should be a lesson to all of us. You never know, it could happen to anyone. Make sure that you have a list of all your guns, with the ser.# just in case, you can report it lost so that if a gang banger finds it and uses it in a crime, well you know the rest. Safe hunting to all!
Jmnhunter
couple of my friends and I duck hunted north of bemidji a few years ago; i was in charge of backing the trailer down for the boat and the other 2 gathering our stuff; got back home and noticed the knuckle heads left the guns on the dock at the landing! we put the pedal to the metal 20 miles and luckily they were still there
fasternu
That is exactly the case that happened here. Honest mistake. I teach my students to do the right thing, even when nobody's looking, I guess I have a real life situation to teach about now. That is what responsibility and ethics are. Gary Crichton
I don't know how you could forget or leave that piece of equipment around. Holy cow, must be some party animals. There will be at least 9 guns at our place this week and everyone knows where their gun is at all times. Never had that happen in my years of hunting. Pretty un-responsible if you ask me. Careful what you say Gary it may well come back to bite you! I would have never thought that it would happen to me either but my son and I tried some different tactics for hunting last year so the game was new to us. Long story short the guns ended up being left in the tall grass along the river. Went back and they were gone. Thankfully the person that found them and turned them into the Dundas police who I had reported the loss to and we were reunited with our guns. We are even more careful now and hope that it would never happen again. Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
fishmon
That is exactly the case that happened here. Honest mistake. I teach my students to do the right thing, even when nobody's looking, I guess I have a real life situation to teach about now. That is what responsibility and ethics are. "honest mistake" is not how I would describe it if you are in too big a hurry for whatever reason to make sure you know where your gun is you should'nt own one! Yes it was a mistake so is coming home and leaving your gun where one of your kids can find it and shoot themselves (another "honest mistake")That should be the real lesson you should teach your students about responsibility. How would everyone feel if two 9 year old kids came across this gun first and one accidently shot the other? The owner of this gun should be charged with leaving an unattended firearm where a child could find it. I think you should have donated the gun to a group that could use it to teach responsible gun handling like a firearms saftey course and make the irresponsible jerk that left it lay have to replace it maybe he too would learn a lesson on responsibility.
