Cobber
Uncle gave me his old 870 Wingmaster that he hasn't used in a long time, and it had been sitting in a case for 6 years. There is surprisingly VERY little aside from surface rust- a small amount of pitting on the exterior that I think i'm going to go ahead and take care of right away. Couple of questions-1) Could anybody suggest someone that could do a good job with the bluing in either SW Minnesota, or in the Metro area?2) How much is something like this going to cost? How long will it take? Thanks for the help!!
96trigger
I wouldn't blue unless the pits are very bad. Try and use steel wool and oil and rub them out. You will probably be left with a few stains, but it will more than likely still look pretty good and not cost you much.
Tom7227
Ahlman's which is on Highway 60 west of Faribault has great gunsmithing service. My guess is that you may be looking at $100 depending on how bad it is. The Wingmasters are great guns so it probably is worth the effort. Only thing to be concerned with is the choke - no steel if it's a full choke.
Ufatz
While you're having it blued at Ahlman's have them open the choke to a more modified. Are you sure the 870 had REAL blueing on it in the first place?
paul pachowicz
96 trigger took the words right out of my mouth. Also, it would be interesting to find out how old it is. You can do that by serial number or maybe uncle can tell you when he got it. I sure wish I had the Parkerized one I carried in Nam. If I had one I think I would have it Parkerized just for old time sake.
gspman
You could call Laibs gunsmithing in Spicer for prices.
