GMC 4.8L vs 5.3L

GMC 4.8L vs 5.3L - How much of a difference is there.

I'm looking at trucks and found two Chevy 1500s, same price but one has the Z71 and 5.3L and the other has the 4.8L with 30K less miles. What should I get? They are both the same price.

I will be mostly pulling a 16.5' boat or a trailer with and ATV. Am I going to see a lot of difference in the two, or am I good to go with the 4.8L?

I would go with the 5.3L all day.

My dad has the 4.8L and he actually gets worse gas mileage than I did with my 5.3L and the power just isn't quite there with the 4.8L

how many miles are on the two rigs?

I don't know, I have a 4.8 and am very satisfied. I just have a 14' boat, but have pulled a 1775 pro v without a problem. So far I am at 180,000 miles and counting, no problems. (knocking very hard on wood right now)

If I was going with a new truck I would go with the 5.3. Since they are used it totally depends on condition and how well you like the truck. If you like them equally then you make a low offer on the one you like the best. If that don't go do the same on the other and work your way up. Both will pull your boat fine and the milage won't be that big of a deal.

I would say get the 5.3, as long as it isn't substantially higher than the other one. (However I believe the Z71 has the offroad package, which is worth something, so price wise that may make a difference)
