Tyler23
what do you guys think? the NW wind is supposta be blowing hard the rest of today and tomorrow...
Maxxed Out
Some Teal and Woodies may take off, but NW wind is what brings the birds down as well, so I say bring it. The longer we get that NW wind to blow the better.
Quackaddict9
Not too worried, Most of the birds will stay around. Otherwise there'll always be Mallards for a while.
broken_line
is there teal in the northern parts of mn yet?? thats my target this sat if there will be any around yet.. there are a chunk of woodies around as of right now..
brittman
If the sky goes clear tonight many teal and some woodducks will bolt on the NW tailwind. That time of year and the conditions are right.
cutter08
I get a kick out of everyone that says all the teal and woodies will be gone by opener. It takes more then 2 or 3 days of cold weather for them to move out. Last year when we put the boat in the water at 4am it was 31 degrees. All we shot were teal and woodies. carpshooterdeluxe
good push of geese into ne sodak today with the wind. more than a few didnt get any farther south...
brittman
Did not say there would be no teal or woodducks, just that many will leave. If there are a million bluewings in MN and half leave, still plenty around. The big flocks that leave 1st are often bachelor male groups. The smaller brood flocks are said to stick around longer.Teal season opens in the deep south in mid September. Pretty obvious that a whole lot of teal are already winging south by Labor Day including those that grew up in MN.
Gordie
the wind out of the NW is more of a factor later in the season not saying that some birds will not take advantage of the easy ride south but as its been said some will go and some will come and better yet some will stay.I also heard this year after year about no teal or woodys on opener and I always seem to shoot quite a few of them. I guess if your that worried about it dont go that will mean more for me good luck guys
brittman
Location and scouting is always a good indicator of success. The DNR reports success as a whole, by region and by state. They can say that the average is say 2.5 birds per hunter, but we all know plenty shoot 6 and others none.Few if any shoot .5If you are where the ducks are or want to be and away from other hunters (remote public or private land) you will shoot plenty of ducks ... CatchPhotoFilet
Long as there is plenty of food and water, the birds will not leave.
SportFishin'
Out here in Montana the Geese are just moving in from Canada there were some big flights this AM. I was calling them from the driveway as I built my blind today was fun to see them turn and fly over head. They were all head to the picked wheat fields down by the yellowstone river just south of my house. Still pretty warm out here in the west. Cant wait to hit it on Sat. here in Montana at a 1/2 hour before sunrise!!!Regards,Chris
