ib_jigged
I drilled out the rivets on the main floor in my '82 Lund Pro-Angler and replaceing the wood and carper, and putting vinyl down instead. My question is, what is the best way to fasten it back down, rivets again, or is there some type of screw that would work just as well? I would like to be able to pull it up easier if need be instead of drilling rivets.
EBass
I used stainless screws and screwed my mdo plywood floor onto the ribs of my jon boat (predrilled the holes) and made some wood ribs between the metal ribs. She's solid.
opsirc
put a new floor in my boat last year, I found some triple coated, self tapers that I used. no need to predrill.
Walleye Guy
Use Stainless screws. Using anything that will corrode when it gets wet in a boat is asking for trouble in the long run.
CAMAN
I did the same exact thing on my '83 Pro-angler about 10 years ago. I used 1 1/4" Oval Head stainless steel screws and finish washers. They still hold great and look good. Have any pics of the finished product?
ib_jigged
No pics yet. I decided to use rivets and to also go with carpet. I ordered the vinyl and did not care for the dark gray color. I ordered red carpet and will now attempt to redo the entire boat.Hopefully some photos when it is all done. chris63
I suggest using rivets.Screws of any kind will come loose if you use your boat in rougher waters. The manufacturers would like to save time too however they want their vessels to stay together as long as possible.Oh yea when you drill out your old rivets be extra careful so you can use your old floor for a template so you don't drill any additional holes in the ribs.Usually end up having to anyway with a couple of spots.c63
