HunterLee
We are coming out to Montana again this year. Going to be in the Jordan Area, were near Broadus last year. We were told that there are more goats in the Jordan area. Anyway, was wondering how the weather has been? Dry or wet, and if that is a good area to hunt them. Thanks alot. Wallydog
Hunter, I could help ya in ID but not in MT.Best o luck. It's one of my favorite hunts, just had a bugger of a time drawing here in Idaho for the last 10 yrs or so.WD
SportFishin'
HunterLee, I will check with some of the locals I work with that speed goat hunt and get back to you tomorrow with a report. The drawing for Montana is conducted on July 21st. I have put in for the zone 530 Northwest of Roundup and there are all kinds of goats in that area. But as for the 700 zones there is a total this year of something like 13,000+ tags be given out.Regards,Chris
HunterLee
We havent got the results back, but it is almost a sure deal. There was only 60 or so last year that didn't get a tag, and i believe they added more tags for this year. I did however get my $10 conservation stamp/tag thing, so at least i know they got the money.
mrklean
i put in for zone 700 as well and got my conservation tag the other day hope i get drawn we are gonna try and hit the terry area if we are drawn
DonBo
I've hunted both Broadus and Jordan areas. Both have lots of goats, but I think there are more near Broadus. Public land may be easier to come by near Jordan though. Either way you're in for a great time. Love those speed goats...
SportFishin'
Well the results are in for the FWP lottery:I was sucessful on both my Antelope & Elk Permits!!! So the hunt planning is in effect and time to get to the range and dial the rifles in.Hunterlee I spoke with a couple of friends of mine and they said the Jordan area is loaded with goats so you should have a great time. If you haven't already done so go online to the FWP and request to get your BMA books mailed out after Aug 15th to plan your hunt. Then the books let you scout out what big game the ranches are managing for in your hunting zone. Then you can request the maps & contact info for ea BMA that requires written permission to hunt their land. A great resource out here in MT. The daily "Sign in" BMA's I guess are pretty heavily hunted, but the ones that require written permission are less likely to be over hunted because they have limits on the number of hunters per day.Good luck,Chirs
DonBo
You're right. I've hunted the "sign in" areas and they do get hit hard. They do however still hold good numbers of antelope though the big bucks are not very plentifull. Still a good option though.

DonBo
i didnt get drawn for the 700 zone for goats, its a sad day for me right now Seriously? Seems I recall that's about a 95% chance of drawing. Dude, stay out of the casinos.
mrklean
haha i know, but the werid thing i was contacting some different people out their tresspass hunt people different areas just for fun and one told me the chance of a non res getting drawn was like 5-10% in the 700 zone. Oh well ill do the 900 next year then and thats 100% so if i try and and get denied then i know something is wrong

HunterLee
Well we scored on the 900 zone tag, we figured we would, but i like to get the results. We already had a ranch lined up. Its about 30000 acres so we should get chance at something. Hows the weather been out there, hopefully dry, have been keeping an eye on the weather and its hot today out there. Thanks for all the replies. Mr.Seaguar
You can still apply for South Dakota Antlope tags. I did it yesterday.
mrklean
how much public land is their for goats. I always thought that was a problem not finding a lot of land
Mr.Seaguar
Its not like WY or MT but theres enough nat`l grassland and WIA that you`ll find somewhere to hunt. Plus if a guy just asks most ranchers say shoot them all. We had a rancher drive out on the grassland, pick us up, drive back to his place and say go shoot those right there. Good Luck
