DOVE SEASON

I enjoy dove hunting and wondering how many of you have gotten into dove hunting and what your experiences have been.

Absolutely love it. You get in the right field or watering hole and it's an absolute blast.

I have never been able to get on a good field until last year. Well, last year two buddies brought me with to hunt with them over their spinning wing decoys. The doves were acting like the decoys had suction power. With three of us shooting over the decoys, it just didn't seem very sporting to me. So I walked to the other side of the field and shot a few birds on their natural route flying. THAT was a challenge, and I enjoyed it. My buddies kinda laughed at me when I had 4 birds, and they had their limits, but for me it wasn't enjoyable to just pile up the birds with three people shooting over the decoys. To each their own, though.

I hope to make it out a couple of times this fall dove hunting. It is a great warm-up for ducks and pheasants.

I had fun last season dove opener. It was my pups first "real" hunt and he retrieved 8 doves for me. A little warm still in early September, but it was a blast and a great way to kick off the season.

Some of us were hunting early season goose last year and the field we were in was just loaded with doves. After the morning hunt we went and got some lead and my mojo dove decoys and had a fun 1.5 hour shoot. We got 21 between the three of us. I went back out the next day and got my limit in about 2 hours or so. Went out another evening and got a few more. Should have went back there a few more times, it was a great spot.

The morning I got my limit was close to as much fun as I've ever had hunting. They are awesome to eat. A slice of jalapeno, roll them up in bacon and grill. We also breaded and deep fried a few. Either way they tased great.
