Interesting Pitching Stat

13 posts in this topic

According to Inside Edge's scouting data, no pitching staff makes hitters chase pitches out of the zone more often than the Twins (30 percent). Of the seven pitchers with the best chase percentage in the majors, four of them are with the Twins, including three members of the starting rotation (Scott Baker, Nick Blackburn and Kevin Slowey).

Chase percentage

(min. 465 pitches out of strike zone, through Monday)

Pitcher Team Chase pct.

Ramon Ramirez Royals 32.8

CC Sabathia Brewers 32.5

Scott Baker Twins 32.3

Nick Blackburn Twins 32.2

Matt Guerrier Twins 32.1

Roy Halladay Blue Jays 31.7

Kevin Slowey Twins 30.6

Here's another one that I heard a while ago. There is only one pitching staff in the MLB that has their entire starting 5 in the top 40 in ERA....You guessed it, my beloved Pale Hose!

Also, can you name the top two HR leaders in the AL?

Quentin has 35, Dye with 29 and Thome (7th) has 26

All 3 I have on my fantasy team, Quentin has been a stud since day#1

Right on Wild!

Geno, I ain't saying...I'm just sayin! Those were the stats, ma'am, just the stats, but that was a while ago during the season before Jose took a dump on us! Pale Hose will go with a 4 man rotation thru the regular season and won't need a 5th the rest of the way, if they do, Richard or Broadway have proven to be worthy 5th men. You better be worried about your Cubbies getting shut down by the Koufax/Drysdale pitchers on the dreaded Cinncinnatti Reds team, shut down those Cubbies like a tornado siren last night!!! And the Brew Crew and Cards win....could get interesting. I think I saw Steve Bartman outside the park last night looking for a spare ticket. LOL

"looking for a ticket"....yeah, at least fans want to come see one of the 1st Pl teams in town....Cubbie Kool-Aid rules attendance again here in Chi-town.

And you know what I am going to say in response to that already, right Geno. First I am going to say that half of the quiche eaters at the game probably don't even know the score of the game, they are just texting people on their cell phones and making plans to hit the Cubby Bear or whatever other bar is up there in "boys town" after the game. I was at the game earlier this week and the Cell was pretty full 39,000 plus. Then I will tell you that back in the day the Ford Escort was the highest selling car in the US at one point and will ask you if it was the best car at that time since it was the most popular selling car. And then you will come back with something else that I will already have an answer for, haven't we seen this movie already?

But it's fun!

So what you are saying is all those people dressed in Cubbie blue in Atlanta and Florida and Milwaukee and all the other MLge parks are wrong too?

Fess up now Windy.....you are just jealous of Cubbie favoritism, right?

End of Movie. Be kind...do not rewind.

OH Baseball and their statistics... Did the umps record on all of these pitches that they were indeed out of the strikezone?

Umps arent in charge of stats. If you look at the press box area next time your at the game and see a bunch of people working on their laptops...those are the people who do it.

The umps are in charge determining whether a pitch is in the strike zone or not last time I checked.

...so, the umps mark it down on that little card in their shirt pocket and hand it over to one of the dot com propeller heads in the press box after every game? I think not... Sure, the umps are in charge of the calls, but someone else is keeping track of all of these great stats that make MLB so unique..

BTW: Is that 'chase' stat only for swings and misses and foul balls? Seems to me a guy could have a pretty high 'chase' stat, but if they all went for base hits, that's no good...

    • Branson is sort of in a transition, since they weren't going to survive catering to a population that's mostly dead now.   I've heard it's getting more interesting for people under the age of 75.     I grew up about 45 minutes from there.   We used to cruise through there on Friday nights and chat up bored out of their mind girls on vacation with grandma and grandpa.     The surrounding area is beautiful, once you get off the highway and away from the billion billboards.

    • Does anyone have any good ideas, memories, experiences with any hunting trips that they would like to share?  My dad is turning 60 in a year and a half and I would really like to plan a once in a life trip that I can buy him.  That being said, I can not spend 20 grand on a 2 man moose hunt in Alaska and that is being generous on the cost of that one, more like 30 plus.   Looking for a moose, caribou like trip.  He has shot a big muley in the past and an elk, so that may not be top on his list anymore.   Just looking for ideas.  Thanks much.

    • Have not been around here much but always enjoy the "Turkey Talk" Count me in. Hunting Minnesota and Wisconsin. Archery for both.
    • I put my feeders out 1st of May usually. Such a neat bird. We usually only have a few so they are territorial here. Fun to watch one guard a feeder and then zip down when another one comes. Maybe they get along in bigger numbers?   Up north at daughters inlaws on a lake the neighbors have 4 feeders under a big pine and usually a bunch of hummers. Saw about 15 one time and they got along fine. Pretty neat.
    •   So that's the evidence you have about illegal wiretaps that apparently nobody else has besides Trump?  That Obama's a bad (or sick) guy?   Try harder.
    • Yup, everytime i call you or del out to put up the truth about your own bodies, you dodge. Wouldn't that be the ultimate proof that your way of addressing personal health and wellness is more effective in preventing and healing?  I think you guys have an idea from what you've been told and not what you bring yourself to learn and you never put anything to use so, who are you really to share your opinion? A couple of blowhards, thats who.
    • What crankbaits do you like for the 7-9ft range?   Looking for something that casts/have action like a DT-10, but doesn't run quite as deep. I have some SK series 4, but they have the wider wobble which sometimes I don't want. The SK series 3's just don't cast that far, especially in a wind. Same with some others, they always seem to be smaller in this range.   Thanks.
