How long before most people quit ice fishing?

As long as the shoreline stays locked up. I'm not the type to use planks or ladders to make it from shore to ice.

I have been known to be ice fishing and in the boat on the same day or within a day of eachother

Seems like I am usually done for the season once my equipment is no longer able to provide me with the necessary functions.

ie. My augers in the shop until next week. Hopefully I can get out once after that to at least test it.

Last year my thermo coupler broke and I didn't get around to fixing it before ice went out.

Year before that I couldn't find an extension and couldn't reach the bottom of the ice.

Prior year I had a pop up and a couple poles broke and I didn't get a replacement until summer.

Or of course, once the snow is too deep for my truck.

I fish until I can't get on the ice. Most years I'll do planks and ladders. One year I used a paddle boat (dumb). I'm (very slightly) smarter now, so I'm done when a 40' extension ladder won't get me out anymore.

What kind of question is this!? fish till ya fall in, make sure you hit the gym first and can do pull ups with water logged boots, but if you trust yourself, heck its one of the best fishing and least pressured times of the year.

As long as the ice is good, I'll be on. Most years, mid-end of March unless a cold snap comes. Last year, 2nd week of April was my last trip. Lower Hills lakes were open, but a few higher ones lasted. Ice was still pretty thick, but chunky and melting alot. Hopefully the same this year.

mostly meant how long till the ice gets bad to go out on.I thought once the landings get bad it gets unsafe fast if the weather warms as fast as they say with no snow cover i would guess it will go fast
