gritsnham
Ok just wanted to make that distinction since some baits are sold as "swim jigs" but are more like chatterbaits. When I think swim jig it is a bullet head jig with a trailer retrieved fast...back to the topic I would really take cecils advice and try a heavier braid line it has worked really well for me just dont forget to let the fish take the bait a bit before setting the hook
river rat316
Classic swim jig, light wire hook, thin weedguard, bullet shaped head

river rat316
LOL, funny thing is I have never caught a fish on that color, crank, spinnerbait, or swim jig. I prefer the darker colors, Green Pumpkins or brown with a little blue mixed in.
TurnUpTheFishing
yeah I always throw darker color too but its still a nice looking jig bet it would catch lots of fisherman atleast.

bklimek
So what type of rod do you guys recommend? I read a 7'0 M-MH action with moderate action. Does this mean a rod geared more to crankbaiting? I like shimano rods and just trying to figure out what would work best.
TonkaBass
Don't use a crankbait rod for swimjigs... I like a fast action personally. Something with some backbone behind it.
HellaBass
I use a Loomis 844 or
mozy
Something in the 7' range, give or take a few inches is generally prefered. Most people use a MH or H rating, which depending on brand is in the 1/4-1 oz. region. Based on everything I've heard or read, the Loomis 844 or 843 in GLX is about the ultimate rod for jig fishing. Watershed
I use the Falcon Cara, Reaction Series Swim Jig Rod. It is a 7' 3" rod with slower tip action. Plenty of backbone. The slower tip lets you cast smaller swim jigs, 1/4 and 1/8oz when necessary, and also gives the fish a chance to get the bait in their mouth. The best rod I have used for fishing the swimjig. Its kind of a cross between a spinnerbait rod and a standard jig rod.
gritsnham
I have learned to swim jig on my 7' MH avid and just love this setup with power pro. Its got the perfect amount of give with sensitivity and the backbone on that thing can set the hook great even on the long end of casts
