50D Firmware update

For all you 50D owners, new firmware 1.06 is out and available. No more error 99's. They now have codes for all errors. sRAW files have banding issues corrected. I was actually at 1.03 when my camera was rebuilt a month ago, I must have missed a few updates

Rebuilt? New Pistons and Rings?

What happened?

I've never had an err99 with mine and no banding,so I'll leave well enough alone for now. Thanks for the heads up.

Literally new pistons and rings! The complete control board in the bottom of the camera failed and was replaced. I updated mine last night, no big deal, whole process was about 5 to 10 minutes. I've never had an error with mine either but I do like the latest firmware in the camera.

If you do the update you need to update the Canon software and RAW codec as well. I did a quick check after the update and the vertical banding sometimes noticeable at high ISO and in the shadow areas appears to be gone. I like the fact that instead of the generic "err99" they have specific codes which should allow you to narrow down the problem to more specific issues.

Thanks, Dan. I'll see if I can figure this one out in less than the 6 weeks the last one was. I haven't had any problems with mine (knock on wood).
