boatfixer
Look in the owners manual for the api service recommendation. Then go with a name brand oil. Yamaha, Quicksilver, Amsoil. Just make sure it is a marine 4 stroke oil with the correct api recommendation.
theoilman
I believe that all 4-stroke outboards today require the NMMA FC-W ("Four Stroke Water") specification. You can definitely do a lot better than the oem lubes!AMSOIL 4-stroke marine lubes (FC-W certified) exceed the oem performance in protection by better than 50%! Data charts are on the following links:AMSOIL 4-stroke Marine 10W-30 AMSOIL 4-stroke Marine 10W-
LMITOUT
I have a 90 4-stroke and use the Yamaha oil. I figure as long as it's under warranty I'll use their oil so there is no questions. Better safe than sorry, and I figure as much as the engine costs it's worth the few extra dollars for the Yamaha oil.
Northlander
I use the Amsoil 4 stroke in my Yamaha 115 4 stroke and it has been great. No oil related problems in the 5 years I have been using it.
Casey Sunsdahl
I use Amzoil in all my equipment.. 2 2 stroke outboards auger chain saw and 4 stroke outboard.. well worth it.. my biggest thing is the no smoke factor.. gotta love that.. and all your smaller engines will idle smoother and troll/cut better.
