Weekend Report

Recommended Posts

I went camping on the ice for the 1st time ever! I was apprehensive that it'd be uncomfortable or I'd freeze but I had a lot of fun! We have an 8x8 portable that Jim put insultex in and it was very warm and cozy. It was pretty nice to get done fishing for the day and then not have to drive home. Home was just a few hundred yards away and packing up was minimal. It was a balmy six below when we work up this morning. Jim did VERY well catching his limit every day he was out and I didn't catch a single one. Thanks Steve T. (sptitz) for the cot! Here's Jim with his monster laker:

Wow, much better luck than we had. I went down to Walker and met up with Char and her hubby, we fished three locations on Leech Saturday. Today we ran over to Osage and fished Straight Lake. We couldn't find too much of any decent size.

Our Nils auger is only an 8" hole!! Takes a lot of finessing to get a fish like that up! Some people drill 2 holes and then chisel out the extra-we may have to start doing that.

Sometimes I make a bigger deal of things that are new to me. That's just the way I am. I am starting to learn to step outside of my comfort zone (literally this time!) and try new things. I am VERY glad I did! laugh

Lisa, I used the Nils to cut out a three-hole overlapping pattern yesterday afternoon for my tip-up, just in case a monster bit. No monster, but the Nils allows overlapping holes nicely as long as the second/third holes are started well. I started with a two-hole overlap, which was fine, then got a wild hair and went for a third hole. Ended up looking like a 3-leaf clover. smilesmile

Bet you slept good last night. smile

OUCH! so what are you hearing?

We actually only slept in the 8x8. We moved around and fished different spots during the weekend with the Otters.

Once spring rolls around, I don't think Jim could stray too far from Winni or Deer Lake. We did talk about tenting on Burntside this summer though to chase some summer lakers. That lake is so pretty-I'd love to see it in the summer.

I'm pretty confident you'll see Burntside this summer. It's one thing to be bitten by the laker bug. But Jim just got bitten by a BIG laker bug, and you got a big laker bug bite last month. gringrin

Nothing quite as beautiful as drifting along Burntside jigging for trout on a fine calm June morning. Ahhhh, open water.

Speaking of Jim, how is his sunburn? My face is a little stiff today. smile

Lady Lisa what was the problem with you not contributing to the catch part of the weekend. Sounds like you still had a good time. Didn't miss much on Winnie this weekend, although we would have not gone hungry.

My wife and daughter go to Fort Meyers for the day and watch a Twins game and get some sun. I go North and get more of a tan they they got. Got to like that.

It's true!! I was furiously jigging and trying new jigs (I even tried a Lindy Rattl'n Flyer goshnabbit! If the matters AT ALL blush ) and not chatting but nothing worked!! I guess I was starting to feel entitled but I got my keister back in line with those Laker Gods now (after I do those 5 steps to Laker God Appeasement-check out the Burntside report to see what I mean)!! blushlaugh

You have to dance around the outside of the fish house
Dang! I didn't... smirkgrin I'm sure that would've been the ticket though Gary! Laker Gods LOVE dancing!!

I am not sure about that, seems like I was doing a lot of dancing around on the ice at the Bash and never even got a nibble.

Dancing 'cause it was flaming cold that weekend!! BRRRR! It warmed up nicely during the day this past weekend. Now I hear we'll be getting some snow tomorrow. Hopefully that doesn't screw up ice travel this weekend for those who are going.

awesome catch Jim !!!!

Sounds like a great weekend Lisa

I was fishing with the WI girls on Chequamegon Bay. It was fabulous !!! I didn't catch much - some smelt and perch, but a few women landed some Coho Salmon and one Lake Trout - at least 30" - got away from the hole for one gal. crazy

What a blast fishing on Superior - I will definitly be back !!!
